You start in the hub the moment you restart the game. Just like in Kazooie and it auto saves the moment you pick up a pagie, ghost or finish a quest for an NPC to my knowledge. I also think screen transitions auto save. Just look in the bottom right hand corner for the hard disk with eyes.

I know it's a bit old thread, but since no one gave an answer: pause the game and change any option in settings. That's as close as you can get to the manual save.

The "save & and quit" option doesn't save?

^Back when this question was asked, "save & quit" wasn't an option. That was changed in a recent patch. It used to be "quit to title" and this was followed by the warning "all unsaved progress will be lost".

Obviously that's changed now, but I just want to point out that Twarda8 gave a great example of how you can manually save. Personally, when I wanted to save my progress before "save & quit" existed, I would go to options, invert a camera, and then change it back again.

This can still be useful if anyone wants to save their progress without quitting. Last time I checked, this feature was still intact. :)
