It is Apple that needs to make M1 processors work with the X86 system that the Intel Macs supported by default as it is a X86 platform.

Nothing can be done by any developer to make an X86 program work on a non X86 platform. ;)

Not quite true. The developer could recompile the game for another architecture. That's a lot of effort though (the game may need some work getting done on it, so it'd be more of porting that to another architecture) and cutting support for "old" binaries (this game isn't even that old) is a ♥♥♥♥ move from the platform vendor.

On Linux, I'd get a copy of Box64, no idea if that works on MacOS though.

PS: Box64 works splendidly on a Pi 400! Now if library loading wasn't that enormous PITA that it is...

Its just a shame that now, when you wanna buy a game you cant know if it will actually run, without some research

Not the first time for Apple to screw customers over. Recently(ish) they dropped support for x86-32-binaries. OpenGL is poised to die (on MacOS, that is) as well. The first Rosetta lived for 4 years and if you wanted to use software you bought before, your only option was to keep an old system around.
