If I launch the game via "Play Mafia III: Definitive edition" - I get black screen
If I launch via "Play Mafia III: Definitive edition launcher" - the game will load in window mode (alt+enter makes it full screen). It will ask me to accept T&C and then want me to (re)login to my 2k account which gets an error, I hit cancel I am in game & it is linked up with my 2k account.

If these options don't appear when you hit play, hit the gear icon next to the games name in your library or right click game name > properties and launch option drop down box should be on that screen (change to always select)

didnt work for me :( all i get is a black screen. I can get the launcher up but when I hit start, i get the black screen again

nvm seems like it'll only work for me if i play in windowed instead of full screen

it works but now when it checks what additional content i have installed the game just crashes. It's insane how terrible this game is. It's awesome when you can actually play it.

What worked for me is: disable steam overlay, windows 7 compatibility mode, run as admin, and disable full screen optimizations.

Easy quick fix:
1- Launch game with the launch option. The changes below do not work from this screens
settings option.
2- Let the game load in windowed mode.
3- Start the game play while in windowed mode.
4- Pause game and select options.
5- Select display.
6- Turn off VSYNC
7- Turn on fullscreen.
8- Turn VSYNC back on.
You should be good to go from there.
* This has to be done every time you launch the game until a patch is released.
