Actually, the way the devs describe it, this game isn't linear at all, and is about as open world as GTA/Watch Dogs.
OK, just for the record? Collecting little glowing red crosses that magically heal you is even worse than regeneration...
So to recap, eating food for healing, something there is actual scientific proof to back up, is still more realistic than superhero regeneration or glowing health aids.
To be fair, nothing can heal any kind of wound instantly...if it could, I'd be in another line of work probably. However, foods high in protein will heal a wound faster than morphine or any other kind of pain killer because, well...pain killers don't heal at all.
Now the Far Cry route, if we're looking for the most realism, at least stops the bleeding somewhat, so there's that...unfortunately, since the game takes place in the 70s, there's not going to be any alginate or hydrogel dressings laying about for maximum wound care.
Thanks, Captain Obvious. It's a video game. Did you think it was real life?
And I thought the whole point of this tangent was discussing why there would be a reason for the consuming of food in this game, and my two reasons were some immersion and a more realistic way of healing than regeneration or glowing health aids...or did you forget the whole point of this exercise in your oddly passionate stance against food in this game?
Nah, I'm just casually discussing the matter...on the other hand, you were the one rabidly against the concept of food in the game, to the point of arguing with everyone in the thread who actually like the idea. Now, myself personally? I'm hard pressed to think of a single issue about a video game that is so important to me that'd I'd take the time and expend the energy to actually reply to everyone...why, that'd be...um, what's the word I'm looking for?
Oh, right...that's it. Thanks!

I think in M1 there were a couple of first-aid kits with animation where he opens them and stuff, I liked those. Maybe slowed down the gameplay a bit for someone, I'm not sure. Maybe M3 devs have came up with something cool too.
But the lack of regeneration is really cool.
