Really, if anyone is considering whether to get Mafia 3 or not and hasn't played Mafia 2, just get Mafia 2 instead. Or, if you don't care about dated graphics, get Mafia 1.

I have both. No way 2 is better, with its horriable driving controls. 3 is great if you have a decent PC and a controller.

I run mafia 3 with no issues because i have a great rig to play it on, i have only played mafia 3 for 5 hours atm and thats every now and then one hour max a day

With mafia 2 that came out in 2010, thats 6 years ago and the graphics were ahead of their time i nthat game as it demanded a serious gaming pc already

But when i started playing mafia 2, i didn't stop playing untill i had it finished the first time

It were the little things that made me love mafia 2 more then mafia 3
Moving chests for a job at the start of the game
carry a large variety of weapons
have your house and move out of your house to have a new one
vito landing in jail only to get out 4-5 years early because of a clemente
joining a family
making wrong choices that evidentally ended up you fighting your own family
paying of the debt vito's father owed to his sister which actually got him into jail...

I mean sure its story-wise what i just said here but all these great things that drew you into the game, kept on coming later ingame...

selling cigs with joe barbero...

Be able to limit your speed


Am not saying mafia 3 doesn't have these things, but i haven't felt it yet that draws me to mafia 3 and its story

I can see some minor details being less impressive than in mafia 2 but the storyline, missions and the general sense of progression is a lot better in Mafia 3. In mafia 2 you struggled to save up a little money just to have it all taken away mid game. This of course didnt REALLY matter since there were nothing really to use the money for anyways. It was a mafia game where money had no meaning and you had no choises at any time that had any consequense.
A lot less cars.
A lot less variation.
No consequenses.
No choises.
No value in collecting money.
Boring storyline.
Poopy ending.

Gameplay is more important to me then seeing my reflection in the mirror or opening the glovebox to look through my cars manual (if that was a thing it would be neat tho). To me mafia 2 was a tedious game i worked through hoping it would get interesting after the first intro missions. Then the game was over. In mafia 3 i might even play the game again at some point.
That is my opinion, take it or leave it:)

Im about to play through Mafia II again but I recall being most impressed by the graphics at the time. I also enjoyed the fighting, the time span, and the snow! However, the map was small and it really wasnt an open world since there were areas that were inaccessible including the water. There was an 8 year gap between the first and the second game and in someways it felt like a downgrade.

To me all the finer details in the video dont really matter and while the police AI in Mafia 1 & II is the most realistic it was kind of annoying to me. It kind of ruins the fun of it. Im glad they did away with that in Mafia III. I think they should have made an option for Police AI in Mafia III so the player could adjust for their preference.

It's a real shame to be honest my favourite franchise ruined by this shambles of a game.

I agree, never really played mafia 1, but mafia 2 was a game of pure art in my opinion. I loved it. never got the dlc, which from I hear sucks but still the game was amazing. almost perfect flaws but almost perfect.
