For me i have fond memories of the first mafia game aka lost heaven where i could escape police via the overline train network , also pretty good way to travel if you need to get from A to B fast, and finally i think if your gonna go to the trouble of making the game look and feel realistic it adds to the immersion of the city by having an active train / tram network running, brings a little extra life to the city
facts are, you see alot of tracks but never ever a train? thats weird and ruins the immersion and experience in general.
having trains can add more gameplay and it can create a feeling of the scene and place you are at.
having an appartment under some train tracks with no trains on it doesnt really do much too it.
add a train into the mix and the scene changes so much.
Not just that, you could control the train AND let it derail. Good ol times
Not really an assumption though mate, from what i have seen so far there arn't any i have been across a fair bit of the map now following the tracks and still not seen any.
