Crashing on start-up... tried everything.
I'd really love to play, but the game just crashes as soon as I launch it. Tried just about everything..

- Tried lauching the game directly by the *.exe. Doesn't do anything.
- Have the latest Nvidia drivers
- Up to date with all Windows updates. Even tried installing those specific Windows KB updates that the developers suggested for Windows 8.1. It said I already had them installed
- Not running AMD Phenom
- Validated all game files
- Tried lowering sound bitrate in Windows, since someone on reddit mentioned that helped them. Made no difference
- Made sure the game was granted access through Windows' firewall
- Computer exceeds the recommended hardware config. Even tried mixing up the graphical options in the launcher. None of them seem to make a difference
- Restarted multiple times

Not sure what else is left to try. Whenever the game crashes, it just gives me that whole Windows Error Report bullsh*t and the window closes. It generates an empty *.dmp file and I can't seem to find any log file reporting what the error was caused by.

Running the game on Windows 8.1 i7-5930K, NVIDIA GTX 980 with tons of RAM and available HDD space.

I'm very hesitant to "refund" the game since I didn't purchase my key directly through Steam. Not only that, but I already tied multiple DLC unlocks to my copy of the game. I'm not sure how I'd be able to transfer those if, for example, I repurchased the game on console.

This really sucks! This is one of my favorite game franchises of all time and I'm so excited to start the game, but it doesn't work out of the box. I really doubt they'll be able to "fix everything" by their patch this weekend, but I frankly it's the only thing I can hope for right now.

Anyone have some other tips to get the game running?

Yeah exactly I have spent the last 10 hours trying literally EVERYTHING I and those on the discussions could think of and no luck. We are just going to have to hold on for the patch and hope the DEVS are aware of this problem.

I solved the crashing on startup ( for me that is)

I installed Windows Update Troubleshooter https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/512a5183-ffab-40c5-8a68-021e32467565/windows-update-troubleshooter

I ran the application, went through the steps until issues were either fixed or not

I then downloaded and installed the correct KB file that the devs dont mention ( choose which OS you got then download) : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226

Restart when prompted and let the computer update for 30 minutes to an hour

Repair the C++ redistributable by going into Programs and features and clicking uninstall, but instead of confirming uninstall, click repair instead.

Bam, no more crash on start up for me, hope this helps and for anyone on a nonlegit copy of windows, you can still install security updates manually and this will still work.
