stupid ?, is this game a direct sequal?
do i need to play the previous games, or is this standalone

recurring characters, or something like "the other mob is the one from the other games"
dosnt constitute a sequal imo, only continuity of storyline

Mafia series have three games that are each in different era. Mafia is 1930s. Mafia 2 is 1940s and early 1950s. Mafia 3 is the 1960s.

So they're not direct sequel but main character of the first one appeared in the second one (as an older guy) and the second one will appear in third one.

from 1 to 2, did the main showing up, carry over a storyline?
where events from the first lead into the 2nd

or was it more just a cameo
like at the end its revealed the main from 1 is the new godfather, or just gives you a mission
or such

1 to 2, no. But you'll see the first one. If you need spoiler, maybe I'll spoil to you about the main guy from Mafia 1 and what is his role in mafia 2. Don't read unless you want to be spoil:

The main guy in Mafia 1 was in witness protection and was assasinated several years later at the epilogue of Mafia 1. In Mafia 2, you'll see this from a different viewpoint, the main protagonist of Mafia 2 is one of the two guys that assassinated the protagonist of Mafia 1

so is it safe to say that the games are otherwise unrelated to eachother

ie, same setting, same gamplay, but unrelated storyline

Yes. Except maybe 2 and 3 is more related because the protagonist of 2 will play bigger role in 3 than the protagonist of 1 in 2.

perhaps i should ask what kind of style the gameplay is (has been thus far)
is it deeply story driven
like crysis, masseffect, or deadspace, where even though your getting a mission
then running about, you stil taking an active role in the story

or are you basically a tool being given arbitrary missions in order for the next cutscene
to play some disembodied story

Mafia series was always story heavy. It was not open world game like the style of GTA series but a linear story heavy game with some open world element.

thanx, might decide to check this one out

they are not exactly direct continuation of the story, but the mafia is large enough to have diffrent points of view that may get intersected with one another, i think vito is one of the characters in mafia 3 and hes old looking, there may be some events that mention mafia 2 but it shouldent be enough to requier prior knowlage.

i mean, in mafia 2 that 1 mission that give a throwback to mafia 1 ending was not expended on, it was there more for the sake of throwback.
