Language and region locks

Someone already asked about pre-load having all languages included in it, but another thing actually bothers me -- Mafia 2 on release had Czech, Polish and Russian (my region) languages. Since Ubisoft locked the language for us since AC3, and other devs sometimes lock their games by regions and languages, I'm wondering if Mafia III will have English language available for playing (last good translation and localization we had was StarCraft 2).
And do 2K representatives still come around discussions and answer questions? Would be great to have official-ish response.

So the original language of a game might not be available in some places, really? Wow, that's stupid.

Yup. I guess you can KINDA explain logic behind it -- because you can ask your russian friend to buy a game for you, and just give him ~30 dollars (this is how much basic version of Mafia 3 costs) and then he gifts it to you. But this thing is stupid since you can lock the game by region or just gifting feature (like guys from OVERKILL did with Payday 2). But for some reason Ubisoft and some other devs lock the game to russian-only language. And funny thing is, that PS4 and X1 still gets multilang version.

No, Steam changed it. You can't activate a gift sent from Russia to the United States. All the games are region locked now.

The store page should have a small information box at the top of it (Just like the Ubisoft does) if the languages are limited.

2K games are mostly multilang.

I didn't knew about that, thanks for the info. But main question of this thread is "will I be able to play English version of the game?"

And that box lists all supported languages that are (will be) on Steam. So it doesn't help that much. And I wouldn't ask if that box showed avaliable languages in your current region (or at least there would be another box next to it with regional information)/

So at this point I'm sitting here with pre-ordered Schrodinger's game -- until the game actually comes out there's no way to know what I got until the release, when I could open properties menu or start the game itself.

I don't know what country you're from, but I bought Mafia 2 here on Steam and it had all languages. I'm from Russia. And yes, russian localization sucks.

Твое дело в том, что ты скорее всего покупал игру недавно, а я покупала в магазине коллекционное издание и игра активировалась через стим. Сейчас же, со слов моего друга который брал игру в тот же день, когда её вернули в магазин, английский завезли. Но не покупать же мне игру второй раз, верно?

Like I already said, everyone can see the same: 13 languages, English, French, Italian, German and Spanish having their own voice-overs and the rest only interface and subs

Вот в этом и проблема — игры активированные ключом гораздо чаще имеют языковые ограничения, чем те, что куплены напрямую в Steam. А купил я её действительно относительно недавно, в 2014г. И да, в игре всё равно нет русской озвучки, так что можно не беспокоится по поводу языка.

Ну конкретно Мафия при покупке в стиме тоже была залочена на те же 3 языка, так что тут раз на раз.

Мне особенно доставляет сейчас бред, который творится с некоторыми играми, например с первым Max Payne где сначала написано

Я конечно хз что там было с дисковыми копиями все те годы, пока игру не вернули недавно в магазин после удаления музыки на которую больше нет лицензии (из-за этого её и убрали изначально), но английский для нашего региона появился только тогда
