Mafia III freezing my whole computer
So after getting Mafia and playing this game I have found that it freezes my system after I play for a bit and I need to do a hard reset.

My PC specs are:

i7 6700k
EVGA GTX 1080 FTW
Corsair 32GB Dominator RAM
Windows 10 x64 1607 Build

I've had this system for 4 months and play many games, no other games freeze ever. My temps are all within range and have updated drivers for all my hardware.

Why is my game freezing my entire computer? I don't even have the option to go into task manager and end the process for the game. I have to do a hard reset.

Hi!

I having the same problem! Do you still have this bug?

is everything at stock clocks? if not, have you tried stock clocks? the game is very taxing, so it could be exposing an unstable overclock.

but then again, it's also quite buggy, so it could be a game bug.

Same for me!
I spend more the 3h to find the Problem.
There is nothing wrong with your PC specs.
Try to delete all vcredist 2010 /12 /13 /15 and replace it with the newest Version of that.
Now I can run Mafia 3 without any kind of Problems or chrash to Desktop.

Hope that will help you.

If you have those specs, the best you can do is send a dxdiag to 2k so they can see the issue and fix it in a patch

The game itself runs fine, but if you switch out to Windows, Windows itself becomes more and more lagged (while the game still runs fine). I tabbed out and left the house for a few hours. When I came back, I was forced to press reset because the mouse & keyboard were non-responsive.

sounds like a driver issue.

if you run the game in windowed mode does it still freeze up the whole thing?

I have a lot of issues with this game >< It crashes pretty often and it hitches my PC really weirdly. My whole PC will freeze up for about 3-4 seconds then the game plays normally again, it happens randomly while I play with no consistancy, usually 15mins apart I would guess. There is also one instance where the game freeze's and does not recover and I need to Ctrl+Alt+Del and sign out of windows to get it to recover because I cant get the taskwindow up, the games black screen blocks it heince the sign out of windows.
Its really strange because I have a really high end PC.

i7 5930k @ 4.6ghz
16Gb 2400mhz DDR4
Aorus GTX 1080Ti running at 2012mhz
Dont have issues with any other games I play and I have quite a few.

I had a simular problem a while back caused by a fault that developed over time that froze my whole system when writing to a certain disk, at first it happend after several gb's were written and in the end as soon as any data was written.

The fault was a sata2 port, all the other sata3 and sata2 ports were fine, but as soon as my pc wrote data though the faulty port (hdd and ssd) everything froze and I had to hold to case button down to reset.

Is your game on a non os drive.

Have similar issue with R9 280, but a bit in a different way. Basically sometimes in cutscenes it starts getting weird. First of all sound disappears then weird sort of stopping and continuing at increased speed. After doing ctrl alt del it freezes pc. Then I just restart gpu drivers(ctrl shift win B) and it starts working again. This is the only game doing thing like that.

Sorry for necroposting, but I had the same problem.
In my case, the problem was completely solved by downgrading the Realtek audio driver to the version provided by the motherboard manufacturer.
Try to run the game as administrator, it worked for me
