Do restaurants, bars, etc. ever do anything?
Do the restaurants, bars, etc. on the map eventually serve some sort of purpose, or do they just exist for you to occasionally rob (or explore)?

I was hoping I could eventually take them over for myself or one of my lieutenants as an extra form of cash, but I'm now ~12 hours into the game and there don't seem to be any signs that functionality coming into the picture. It seems like a missed opportunity if they really do just exist for looks and random robberies.

they do nothing. the game is as empty as mafia 2 was, they just trick you into thinking its an actual open world lol

You can rob them and a few of them are used for side missions later in the game. Other than that, no they don't do anything.

They provide you medicines, cashes, armor vests. That's all.

Wow, that really sucks. :-( I was hoping they'd eventually bring another layer of complexity to the gameplay/business management. Oh well.

Mafia 3 is even more empty than Mafia 2.

In 2 at least you can buy clothes and drinks. Refill your car and customise it.
In 3 you can only rob the store for money.

The devs said they will add clothing options in for free at a later date. Hopefully they add more things from 2 as well.

Such a waste right. Considering its 2016, at least there is something interesting happening in the city :)
