Mafia III - Game goes into Slow Motion and won't stop

please help!

I recently bought Mafia 3. As soon as I start the game, the very first mission or activity you have to do is go into another room, pick up keys off the floor, and drive a truck somewhere, I'm still not sure where I am exactly supposed to drive to because I can never get that far due to the game all of a sudden playing in slow motion.

Just to make things clear, it doesn't really look like lag, its literally slow motion, the actual graphics don't get worse, it does pause or skip and the audio from the game is still playing at a normal rate, its just extremely slow motion.

This is my first PC game I've ever known, so I am extremely PC gaming illiterate, any help would be appreciated.

If it helps, I am using the new Surface Book 2 15" and playing with the DS4 controller. I figured the specs that come with my laptop would be good enough to run this game but maybe I'm wrong?

PC Specs:

Processor: Core i7-8650U (4.2GHz)
RAM: 16GB
Native Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 620
Discrete Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 1060 (6GB VRAM)

any help would be appreciated, I really don't even know much about which settings would be better/recommended to play this game.

I would stay it might be your pc but it looks fine. Maybe something to do with your INTEL UHD graphics. but that is only speculation. Try to go into your settings and turn everything to the lowest possible settings you can. like shadows and stuff and see if that helps.

Well yesterday I realized that I had to manually assign my dedicated graphics card as at first it was using the INTEL UHD by default, however after trying to start the game again, it re-started from the point which I stopped playing last time, lasted about 5 minutes and then went into slow motion again. This time I got up to the part where Lincon had to grab the money bags out of the truck.

I will try and put everything on low settings again, however I'm pretty sure I already tried that. Do you think it might have something to do with the DS4 controller and application? I haven't tried playing with the keyboard yet..

I am not sure as I have never use my DS4 controller on my PC. I am only going buy how you say it acts. I remember trying to play games on my old PC with a gtx 640 I had. It would do the same thing it would slow everything down and I could barly move. You might want to check and make sure it did not switch back to the UHD.

Yeah its so frustrating. I will double check that although I am pretty certain that its still using the GTX 1060 since I set that as the default for Steam and Mafia 3.

Wish I could be of more help but if there is any constalation its not that great of a game. I have gotten pretty board of it and only still playing to finish it. The cut scenes are good and the music is good thats about it. Everything else is repetitive. The first few things are pretty cool but after the point he goes on his revenge thing it gets repetitive.

Yeah look to be honest, aside from GTA V the only games I usually play are either NBA or FIFA. So I was pretty much just looking for a potential GTA V equivalent in the sense of a different open world game lol which is why I thought id give Mafia a go but then this happens. This was my first PC game I've ever bought and now I'm just thinking why even bother with it. Aside from the portability of my laptop, its just so easy to game on the ps4 and not have to worry about things like this.

I like gta 5 on my pc for the mods and such

If you've manually assigned the 1060 as the correct GPU, then you should also check your power plan and make sure you're playing plugged in. You could be getting throttling due to the Windows power plan set to low power or something.

Without a doubt your PC should be able to run this game on at least medium settings.

I am having the exact same problem, I could play the demo perfectly but when I play the game it is in slow motion! Did you fix it? According to "will my pc run it" my computer fits all requirments.
