Better performance in GoG version.
I bought the game on GoG when it launched there and finally got to installing it and playing it (had to finish Mafia II first). What surprises me the most is that I'm experiencing a massive performace boost compared to what I remember having with the Steam version.
For example:
In the intro mission once I entered the city, Steam version dropped to 45-48 fps and I ran the game on medium settings. I put GoG version on the highest (motion blur off) and it didn't dip lower than 68. Parts that ran at solid 90, now reach up to 127 (highest I noticed).

My questions are:
Have there been any patches after the release of the last piece of DLC?
How's the performance today for the Steam version? (Don't feel like downloading yet another 55 GB)
Has anyone experienced the same thing?

My PC: i7-4790k, 16GB RAM, GTX 1080.

I doubt GoG has newer version than Steam, in fact I think opposite would be more likely, given how easily Steam handles game updates. The performance was improved since release, but that was like a year ago or so.

One improvement to stuttering issues that I found was to change priority of game process from high to normal. The developers (for some inexplicable reasons) made the game default in high priority.

That's the thing. The last patch came with Sign of the Times IIRC. That's when I started my 2nd playthrough. And performance was as I described in the OP. That was when? July/August last year. Now I'm experiencing it smooth as butter. I really should just download Steam version and check.

Doubt considering the GOG version released only a short while back. :P
