The people playing - and enjoying - the game aren't here complaining about a game they haven't played in 3 years - or more - and never finished 'cause it's too hard or their Fischer Price 4000 couldn't handle it.
Yea, it's not perfect - like all games - but it's one of about a dozen, out of hundreds, I can play on a regular basis 'cause it's fun.
The criticisms are more than valid. mafia 3 is a massive disappointment when compared to the likes of Mafia 1 and Mafia 2.
if you only played "1 hour on the PS4 2 years ago" then you don't actually know why this game is hated... the intro is fine.. it's the REST of the game that's lackluster
For the most part, it seems to me the haters are mostly ACTION gamers -- and who cares about something as insignificant as _story_? The other category of haters are Mafia purists that feel that for a game to be titled "Mafia", it MUST be focused on some Italian-American character with Family connections. (Which definitely does NOT describe Lincoln.)
The game is hardly blurry, or low quality graphics on the PC. Perhaps it is your PC that is the problem.

As for those complaints about the game that you raise:
M1 and M2 were just as repetitive. Same kind of missions over and over. HOWEVER, M3 is a MUCH bigger game than either M1 or M2 when you get down to the street level. The number of missions -- many which have to be repeated in several locations -- is accordingly more numerous. Ergo, more repetition.
As for graphics, my games were quite sharp enough. Of course, my PC rig is essentially Ultra, and so at the highest resolution the graphics look fine to me.
All in all I would say that Mafia 3 is fine (like a 6/10) but I doubt once I finish it I will ever play it again. At this point my biggest wish for this game is a fast travel upgrade/unlock because so many missions become drive across the map, kill a couple enemies, then drive all the way back.
1) That ONE PERSON takes down the entire city by killing off HUNDREDS of adversaries.
And 2) that his entire organization seems to think having him ALONE doing all that taking down is naturally the way to have it done.
EVERY other gang warfare game out there has teams of gangsters going after one or more adversaries -- hits on operations and/or targeted assassinations -- repeatedly until one side or the other is so weakened that they have to sue for peace. (Or leave town while they can still draw breathe.)
Ever heard of Mack Bolan? Meet Black Bolan...
It would not be much of a game to bring your 'gang' and then sit back and watch your gang beat the tar out of the enemy, on repeat cycle.
2. The story is just your average revenge trope. Soooo trash compared to previous games. (Although I can't say the same for the dialogues, they are amazing)
3. It's your typical ubisoft open world games, with less features. There's a reason why people made fun of ubisoft games, and somehow someone in hangar13 thought it was a good idea to copy them.
4. Technical problems on launch doesn't help either.
2. The story lines in M1 and M2 weren't substantially different from M3: Revenge against those that wronged the protagonist and blasting through anyone that got in their way. And the simple solution was killing those that opposed the protagonist. How does this approach M3 _worse_? Furthermore, what M3 ADDED was the entire taking on of a racist Establishment that had practically institutionalized "unarmed black person killed by cops". (Personally, I got A LOT of satisfaction blowing away racist white crackers -- and I'm a Caucasian!)
3. I'm not familiar enough with Ubisoft games to see a negative pattern. But then, so what? All a consumer has to do these days to evaluate a yet-to-be-purchased game is look it up on YouTube to see dozens of gameplay videos.
4. A couple years later, that complaint isn't pertinent NOW, is it?
Over the last 2 weeks i played the entire trilogy for the first time in my life, all in their "Definite" versions.
I enjoyed all 3 but Mafia III was by far my favorite.
I put 10 hours into Mafia 1, 15 into Mafia 2 and 50! into Mafia 3.
For me it had the best and most relatable main character, the best visuals and especially soundtrack and the best gameplay.
Now i understand that many players did not like the repetive gameplay in the open world with taking over the districts and such and prefer the much more linear story focused approach of the first two games.
The comparsion with typical Ubisoft open world games is apt but since i enjoy those games it was not a negative for me.
Also i thought the game looked very nice at 1440p max settings, never dropped below 60 FPS and had only 1 crash on a loading screen in 50 hours.
I really enjoyed this game from start to finish and for me personnally its the best Mafia game.
