Steam Controller Not Working Fix.

I have been having issues with playing the game and using a steam controller. Mainly that the controller does not work at all, and the keyboard and mouse does not correctly either when launching with big picture mode and steam controller. I seem to have found a fix to this.

1) under controller configuration use force off steam controller settings.
2) disable rumble simulation (if it is not disabled already)
3) when your are about to start the game, disconnect your steam controller.
4) start the game and use your keyboard and mouse to launch into the game from the main menu.
5) use the PC controls (KB & M) to move the camera and walk around.
6) connect your steam controller and then try and move around, you will find majority of the controls work. If the XBAY buttons don't work use the ESC key on the keyboard and move the mouse and the controller will now work.

Looking into the issue, it appears to be a problem when the game is translating controls to the Steam controller through the steam app package. The game seems to have issues when launching with the controller switching between keyboard & mouse or controller. However if the game starts with keyboard and mouse then switches to the steam controller it is able to map and translate correctly.

Right Click on the game In your library - then click properties - then click controller - then click on the drop down - click on "Disable Stem Input".... Then It works.

I can confirm the issue still persists in 2024. The only solution that works for me everytime is to have wired (not wireless) mouse just connected to PC. No need to disconnect controller and then connect it again. I've played with mouse connected since the beginning of my walkthrough, but then I just disconnected peripherals from my gaming PC and connected to laptop and that when the things gone wrong for controls in Mafia III...
