Fullscreen freezes game
when i launch the game in full screen mode, it works fine, but my mouse isnt locked to the monitor the game is on, so i will end up tabbing out. when i tab back in it registers fullscreen and the game freezes.

specs if it matters:
intel i7 7700k
32GB of RAM (4 sticks of 8)
GTX 1080 (newest drivers installed)

any help would be greatly appreciated, i got about 13 hours into the game before this started and now its unplayable

Try to start your game in windowed mode or follow the steps from this topic.

EDIT:
P.S. Seems like this game doesn't like multiple monitors setup.

I didn't say that you don't know how to run in windowed mode. And you can notice how that OP mentioned some small app to override that windowed mode and use borderless.

If you played for 13 hours after this Definitive update, something is clearly wrong on your side.
So you should start to narrow things down on your end. Verify integrity of game files, reinstall or roll-back GPU drivers.

i didnt own the game until the Definitive Edition was out, and drivers havent changed or updated since, nothing on verifying integrity, ill try a fresh reinstall and if that works ill update this for anyone who needs it

Edit: launched the game just now for the first time today, let me tab out and run it in fullscreen properly, only thing i did between then and now was turn off my PC when i went to sleep, so a simple restart seems to have fixed it

I hope it'll help you. Sometimes even background OS changes or 3rd party programs for monitoring can impact the game's behavior all of a sudden.

But based on topics on the forum this game doesn't work well with multiple monitor setups. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. So go figure...

Good luck!

EDIT:
Ninja'd

You could try and go into the mafia 3.exe properties and disable fullscreen optimization and see if it helps you out.

This helped me a lot, sorry it's taking 4 years for your feedback to have any result.

Easy quick temporary fix:
1- Launch game with the launch option. The changes below do not work from this screens
settings option.
2- Let the game load in windowed mode.
3- Start the game play while in windowed mode.
4- Pause game and select options.
5- Select display.
6- Turn off VSYNC
7- Turn on fullscreen.
8- Turn VSYNC back on.
You should be good to go from there.
* This has to be done every time you launch the game until a patch is released.

after launching the game press alt+enter. Then bring the mouse back to the game and press alt+enter again. Gotta do it every time you launch the game. That fixed it for me. Annoying tho.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
