Mafia III - PS4 Controller On PC Doesn't Work Correctly [DS4 Windows] [How To Fix It]
Hello!

If you don't want to read my story, just scroll down to the very last paragraph! I will briefly explain how to fix the issue!

I have recently bought Mafia 3 and wanted to play it with my PS4 controller using DS4 Windows. I have noticed that sometimes the DS4 Windows application crashes. To temporarily solve the problem I would turn off the controller by holding the PS-button for ten seconds and closing DS4 Windows.

But the problem would not go away, so I sought help on the Internet, but no forum had an answer. But then I noticed something important when I was playing! I drive my car and crashed into another vehicle and the controller would vibrate. After that, DS4 Windows crashed and the controller wouldn't work. Same with using a shotgun! The rumble function must be not working correctly with the PS4 controller on Mafia 3! I turned off vibrations the problem was solved! So, just turn off vibrations (Menu<Controls<Vibrations) and you won't have problems with your PS4 controller!

How to fix the problem: Turn off vibrations in the menu!

I believe PS4 controllers works in BIG PICTURE MODE only.

15 € for a Xbox 360 controller. No hassle.

No. PS4(ds4) controller doesn't work in this game. Its not recognised at all.
The controller works in some other games, not all, regardless of what the API might do.

Right now controllers seem to be entirely broken, the right stick or the stick you use to look around with is crazy sensitive, it's unplayable no matter what you do in the option menu.

Game doesnt support the ds4. Mafia II supports it of all things.

Ds4 works in all games that has Native support for it, and it works in steam app.

I prefer using DS4 Windows instead of Steam's alternative, because I've had trouble with that in the past. DS4 Windows is a quick and easy way to connect a PS4 controller to the system; It's working perfectly with every game I have played so far, except Mafia 3, where the issue can be solved by simply turning off the rumble function. I'm 100% satisfied with DS4 Windows.:steamhappy:

Sure, that's a possibility. But I've been playing with a PlayStation controller all my life and don't think I can get used to the weird possitioning of the left stick and d-pad. Also PlayStation and Xbox have been at war for over a decade now, and I refuse to use anything related to Xbox, Unfortunately, most of the games only support the Xbox controller scheme. :steammocking:

That is true, but have learned that using DS4 Windows is way easier than using Steam's alternative. Especially for older games like Fallout 3, Steam's API just does not work properly.:steamhappy:

I've experienced the same bug. I used the PS4 controller's mousepad once and then for about five seconds the look-sensitivity felt like it was upped by 1.000%! But like I said after a few seconds it stopped freaking out. :steamhappy:

You should try the Xbone controller. It's really good. You dont notice the offset of the left stick, and the triggers are much better then the DS3/4s. Another plus point is the rubber on the thumbstick doenst wear off easily.

Second plus point: All games that have controller support, support the Xbone out of the box. No need for 3rd party or ♥♥♥♥♥ Big Picture mode. And the button-prompts are correct.

For this game, you can get the DS4 to work in game, using Big Pic mode, but all prompts are for the Xbox. I only use it for driving, its unplayable with the rightstick Insanely oversenstive :steamfacepalm:

You can use inputmapper to use PS4 (wired) pad but I've had problems with controller delays.

I've never heard of such a thing. What does it do?

Thanks a lot. Switching off vibration in game really helped.
