Where would this button be?
Edit: We got it. He was able to join but how does the quests work? We tried the starter quest but we got sent to two different instances.
So I saw "16 player" quoted? Is this a full 16 multiplayer experience? Or just alimited 16 player? What I mean by this is: I saw mention of 16 players being able to share a camp.... so is only the camp shared?
Also, is this limited to 4 players locally x4 online hookups? Or can you play a LAN/Internet connection with any combination of the options? (for example, 2 people locally playing with another 3 locally, with another 11 all on their own PC?)
The inviting of people into the same instance sounds a bit confusing, but as long as it works and gets tweaked in time, that sounds good. I currently own the game, love it, but teh MP is what I"m really looking at trying. Also need to know how many copies is ideal vs. wasting time (like 2 local players = 1 game copy).

4 local players = 1 game copy
4 online players in a camp with every local co-op slot = 16 players
Otherwise, it's only 4 online players.
So if you have 3 friends, you can join a camp and have them play local co-op with you and it counts as 1 player slot for the online camp system.
Depending on your club's gaming tastes, I'd suggest Project Zomboid for your "massive co-op" game. You can setup a private server and host as many players as you want/can on it.
Otherwise, you might all have to crowd around a few TVs with wired/wireless controllers to play some 16-player co-op
