i usually redo the First Improvements mission. at least i'm sure that i'll get 5 woods or more there, plus few cans of food. i think it's better than just hanging around the open map.

Wood is best farmed on the main map, bring machette so you can turn sticks into ammo since you will need a lot. Every time you pass a bunker put all you farmed into the trunk so you can farm more without being weighed down. When you cleared the map remember to farm everything and do not bother picking up simple arrows or bolts unless you get below 25 to 30 since it takes too long and there is plenty more sticks.

Tip, do not bother making bandages, they weigh too much and take 3 times longer to "deploy" than just chewing weed.

It is wierd that 2 cloth and 1 weed weighs less than a bandage but this is just how Kovac´s quantom mechanics work the gravitational force in his universe

as momentmag says: "First Improvements" is the only quest where they drop (reward) in higher amounts. But because you find them in nearly all Forest quests you should be able to find enough over the time.
