The Best Place For Base! (Spoiler Alert!)
So, the game forces you to choose place for your camp very early and without giving any hints on what you should be looking for. You did not really scout the map, you have no idea whats out there and what to expect. Yet once you commit to a certain place and start upgrading your buildings, you are stuck there forever. Relocating the base means you need to rebuild and upgrade everything over, which resource-wise is as good as restarting the game.

And yea, you probably could get away by placing your camp anywhere at all, and dump a whole bunch of resources to fortify it as best as you can. This has its own portion of fun actually! But if you are like me, and you want the landscape work for you, i will give you a tip on the absolute best place for your camp.

Alright lets take a look here:

The natural instinct is to look for a place with just one entrance, right? Wrong! You should be looking for a place with as narrow entrances as possible, so you could easily make a deathtrap chokepoints and save yourself a ton of resources by skiping all the fences and repairs. Also, you need a healthy amount of free space inside to fit all the buildings. Keep in mind that all other buildings are 4-8 times bigger than your trunk. On the other hand however, you dont want your place to be too big. The thing is, every building generates a "safezone", and once placed no zombies spawn around it. So ideally, you want to spread your buildings on the site to cover all inner space with "safezones", otherwise zombies will be spawning inside your camp.

Lets take a look at spot A. It has only one entrance and sizeable amount of buildspace. Why is it no good? Well first of all, this one entrance is very wide, secondly it has no bunker hatches close to it, and lastly there are two backdoor cliffs from the higher ground, so zombies can actually jump down from there and you end up having not one but three wide open entrances to your camp.

Whats wrong with (very popular pick) spot B? Its an elevated plateaw with just two relatively narrow entrances. There's nothing really wrong with it, but to me its way too big. Covering it with safesones means you end up having all your stuff way too spread out from each other. Plus it has a weird obstacles pattern, could be tricky to fit all those fat building into those narrow paths.

But now lets take a closer look at my place:

Here as you can see it has a solid forest perimeter with just two very narrow entrances located very close together. Each of those entrances fit only one zombie at a time. You also have two cliffs to lowergrounds, two close bunker hatches and a healthy amount of buildspace so that you can even match some building together (like clothier+armory and chemlab+furnace).

As a bonus, inside it has: 4-6 wood log spawns, 3-4 healing plants, 1 white plant spawn. Also it has a deer spawn right outside the entrance, 3 rabbit spawns which tend to run into the base and get obliterated by your traps - free meat.

Heres how i defend it. Anything that wants in gets milled and shredded, just stand back and watch the show.

I also build my camp on that spot. I built a trunk just outside the entrances with supplies I need so they are close to the bunker hatch a bit bellow that in the map. And around that trunk I place heavy fortifications, since because of my setup I basically only have to defend one entrance.

I also built my spot there. I noticed that building rotating arm with a low wall in front of it tend to slow the zombies down and give your rotation arm and spike more time to deal dmg (when zombies climbing the wall, rotating arms will keep smashing them). Besides that, in order not to defend inside the base, I built around the whole enclosed area with a bunch of Storage. Almost 99% of the time, zombies can't spawn in the base. Even if they do spawn or managed to glitch through into your base, there is probably only 1 zombie. After searching through resources and watching how zombies moved, I covered the outside route with rotating arms + low wall on the paths they walked, although some rotating arms will get damaged, I managed to hold off all waves without even 1 getting to the base at the last attack.

B-but what about bases that have no entrances D:

No matter how many zombies spawn in attacks they can never get in, not a single defensive structure is needed for this location :D Only issue is there is no way for the player to get in once they leave xDDDD

Wow! Silly me. I've been looking for a sensible game study out there and found literally nada. Not even a full map avaliable on the web. Yet there is EVERYTHING comprehensively covered in the community guide.

Too bad i discovered it all on my own already, good old trial and error. But thanks for introducing me to it anyways.
