I don't know these other games that you mention, but when playing online you both have you full screen on your computer, and if your companion is within your field of vision you can see him/her on your screen. There is no split screen, and when your companion is off screen, there is an arrow that indicates the direction to reach your companion. You can give your companion items by going into your inventory and using the triple bar button on the right of the object, then select the icon with the hands. If you the object you are transferring has a multiple count, then it takes you to another window to select how much of that item to transfer, similarly to when placing items in the trunk.
Any authorized participant of a camp can log into that camp regardless of whether or not the other members of the party are playing and logged into your camp at that time. Your character assigned to the various profiles, as you can have up to four characters, maintains the same gear and inventory between local and any camps. You can level up your character at any camp that has the adequate level to permit you to raise your respective character level equal to that camp, and you can use a higher level character at a lower level camp online, and vice versa.
As for the maximum amount of players. Every camp has a limit, which can be set and modified after the camp is created, by the Administrator (creator) of that camp. The limit is four players at any one time, so the Administrator can chooes between one and four that can play at that camp simutaneously. Each camp has a limit of sixteen total members, I believe, even though the count is limited to four that can play in that camp at the same time.
Hope that helps.
