Really? ...
If you're not going to bother reading the whole post, dont bother replying. -.-
Answering my question "Am I doing something wrong?" with " You're doing something wrong because after 1k hours I still enjoy the game was plain stupid and useless, if you cant see that or cant admit it, thats on your problem, go enlight other poeple with your wisdom, rofl.
Diversity is the key word.
Diablo 3, Torchlight 2, World of Warcraft, any given MMO really and so many other games. They all live from the grind but offer you different ways to aquire stuff. If I feel like I cant see the game anymore I take a break or call it quits till another evening when my batteries are recharged.
Works for me, everybody has his/her own routine to handle these things.
Keep your chin up mate and enjoy the game, you ll "win" eventually anyway, no need to race it
1) You choose the wrong type of game. This is a mission based game with resource collecting for crafting. The developers choose to make the game in such that repeatitive grinding is needed to progress. I'm not here to discuss if their decission is wrong or not (TBO, I don't like grinding games, too, but not as far as hating them anyway, I just play HTS2 when I have lots of time to kill), but it is indeed how the game was designed.
2) You should also done substencial amount of research on the games you are about to purchase, if getting the right type of game is so importent to you. In many occasions in this forum, players have mentioned the repetitive and grind-ish nature of this game. IIRC, some game reviwers in well known gaming websites have mentioned this in their reviews, too.
For me, I always read at least 5 reviews before purchasing a game that I'm not sure if it's what I'm looking for.
3) After realizing you may have paid money for a game that you may not like, you should get a refund from Steam (if it is still within the allowed time frame), as soon as you realized the game deffered from your liking, not keep playing untill it's too late, and still pondering: "I don't feel fun at all, am I doing something wrong?".
4) When a refund is impossible, you should try to look at the game at another perspective and try to appreciate the game in its good side (fun zombies shooting, with whatever style you are prefered in). Keep gripping on the bad side won't help you get the most value out of your spend money.
In fact, you are not asking: "Am I doing something wrong?", but what you really asked is: "Why the developers have to design this game in a way I don't like?".... Well, lets just hope you can still get a refund for HTS2, then.
For how to survive 2 it went like this.....
1. spotting the game in a screenshot and it looked like a ARPG
2. read the game description
3. read some reviews. Most helpful first then going over the last 30 days only regarding the negative ones to see if anything substantial has changed recently
4. watch a couple gameplay videos to see the mechanics in action
5. at this point I usually flag the game and wait for a sale, I already have tons of good games I never touched because who has all the time?
The above procedure still doesnt ensure I end up with games I like, gameplay can be deceltive and you never know how YOU like the handling of the game once you do it personally but it helps tons to avoid easy mistakes.
Know what you get into. This game is a grind. That doesnt make it bad nor does it put me off but tastes are different. If I m not into this kind of games I made a mistake or maybe the publisher "tricked me" but in case of HTS2 the game doesnt really try to hide its nature.
