how does MMR work?
Ive been playing ranked with a mate on console and I always seem to get more points than him, even if he does better. seems weird

Your gaining more points because you've played less games than your mate. The ranking system has a certainty factor that increases the more games you play. Which in turn decreases the MMR you gain an loose per match. The argument is that the ranking system has more confidence in his ranking than yours due to their being more match data on him. The algorithm also dose NOT account for individual performance. It only factors whether or not you win or lose.

Yup, exactly, but what also determines you get more elo is if your team's average MMR is lower than the other team and you win, you get slightly more elo. Usually if you reach 150-200 matches in a season, you get capped to 25 elo per match, win or loss if you had a team average of 2500 elo exactly and went up against an enemy team with an average elo of 2500 and lets say you played 200 matches already, you would lose/gain 25 elo.
