is reporting effective?
does something get done or is it shoved under the rug?

Yes, reporting is very effective. Your reports are looked over by actual people and not an automated system so by all means, continue reporting cheaters, toxicity, etc! As others in the thread have mentioned, we send out an in-game notification when one of your reports results in a sanction.

It is, as far as I'm aware. I think about 90% of my reports have led to a notification about the user being banned, although I'm unsure if there's some underlying report validity system if your reports aren't accurate, etc.

It is not effective but you have to do it regardless. You can see people cheating blatantly and will not get banned. Probably 1 out of 20 are banned from my reports, and I do not just report everyone who is suspicious, it has to be clear as water.

*Do not worry if you think that 1 out of 3 games you feel like the enemy team has a cheater, that's how the state of R6 is right now, even in casual.

More than likely it's as effective as the buttons on street crossings: to give you the illusion of agency on a matter that you have 0 power over.

They might trigger a manual review for toxic/griefing reports if they go over a certain threshold. Beyond that I don't see the buttons doing anything but building a notification database should a player get banned.

Why's that then? Well imagine a player getting 100 reports for hacking: the system already flagged him as suspicious based on an unusual high KD/WL. What are your reports realistically going to do beyond that? Make him more suspect?

You are making a mistake by asking a question like that here. These people doesn't have any knowledge, they are just telling their opinion based on very small stuff or nothing at all. If you want to learn more about cheating and stuff developers talk about this issue time to time. If you actually want to learn something instead of hear people whining, you can check the AMA on Reddit that happened a few days ago or just go to Rainbow Six news website and go through the pages. You should especially check the blog post named community concerns which is updated as they have more to share.

and ubi has said, all the reports are checked by human, so it may take a while.

Yeah, these people have no clue here, just go check King George for example and see how he gets his points rolled back every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ day

A little bit but sending video proof is way more effective.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
