I have found out how to fix this problem if an antivirus program is not causing the issue. All you have to do is go to your Steam file in your x86 file in the C: drive. When you are at the Steam folder simply right click it and then go to properties. Go to the security tab and then go to Edit... and then Add.. Here you are going to add the "Everyone" user. When you hit Add... you are then going to go to the Advanced... on the "Select User or Groups" box. After you have hit advanced you are going to see a "Find Now" button click it. It will then show a list of users. Find the "Everyone" User and double click on it. Then after you have added it you are going to go ahead set Full Control for that User. After you have done this you should be able to access the folder. This worked for me when I was getting the error in Rainbow Six.

same problem here. "Windows cannot access the specified device path or file" for rainbow six siege, tired everything that's in the google and turned off antivirus also gave permission to all for every user also installed the game in another drive and still seeing the same issue, plz help. But every other game is working fine for me in steam.

uninstall and install the game again first boot up its works and exit and opened again same issue again

Microsoft is aware of the problem this is what they said in their known issues on the current beta build of windows 10: "There has been an issue with older versions of anti-cheat software used with games where after updating to the latest 19H1 Insider Preview builds may cause PCs to experience crashes. We are working with partners on getting their software updated with a fix, and most games have released patches to prevent PCs from experiencing this issue. To minimize the chance of running into this issue, please make sure you are running the latest version of your games before attempting to update the operating system. We are also working with anti-cheat and game developers to resolve similar issues that may arise with the 20H1 Insider Preview builds and will work to minimize the likelihood of these issues in the future."

I am on the windows insuder build 18922 and getting "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" this message. I have tried every possible fix but nothing changed. What now?

i have this same issue on insider build 18932.1 . I am refunding the game. I remember it worked during free weekend on on old version of windows, so getting back to a stable release of windows will fix this i am sure, but i cant go back unfortunately cuz i need the insider release. Good luck guys. I might buy later on if it works

Games with Battleye don't work on windows 10 insider builds aka beta builds of windows 10 but that would be kinda obvious cause beta builds of windows 10 are not officially supported by any company not even Microsoft themselves aka the people releasing the beta builds of Windows 10. Build 18923 is a beta build so you probably won't get a refund cause they will ask you what version of windows 10 you are running and when you mention 18932 the customer support will end there without you getting a refund.

Having the same issue with The Crew 2 and Rainbow Six Siege on build 18932. Can't play a single game that uses Battleye except for Conan Exiles. I've uninstalled, downloaded and reinstalled 100's of Gigs, changed folder permissions, created different user accounts.. NOTHING works. The only game that actually runs is Conan Exiles. Other than that, none of them work. BattlEye is some straight up BS. How can it work for 1 game and not a single other one ?

The only way to fix this issue is to reset ur pc and doing a clean installation of windows 10.
Well that worked for me at least, keep in mind that I did not lose any of my installed games or did not have to re-download or re-install any of them.

I had this problem too, you should check if you have an Windows Insider preview, they have too many problems with games and this game was no exception. I made all the stuff recommended here but nothing worked. I had to go back to the previous windows compilation to be able to play.

Just read this and check if you're on Windows Insider program, that can cause this error.

I had to format and reinstall Windows.. I'm now able to play whatever I want.. W10-IP started giving me issues with other games anyways so no biggie starting over. Wiped my games drive too so I'm not sitting here with 2TB of games I rarely play, just install what I'm ACTUALLY going to play now.
