Ranked 2.0 is terrible
I can't remotely understand what person at Ubisoft thought that putting everyone into the same rank at the start of the season was a good idea, nor do I understand why they removed calibration matches like LITERALLY EVERY OTHER COMPETITIVE GAME IN EXISTENCE HAS

I'm a returning platinum player from ~10 season break and have never had a more awful time in 7 ranked matches than I ever did playing the 1,500 matches I played in the past. Back in the good version of ranked, I'd get in my 10 calibration matches and usually hit high silver/low gold and be at a pretty decent spot and have good games, but now having to play against people with diamond/champion banners in copper 4 is a complete turn-off to ranked

Removing calibration matches was the worst decision that they ever made in their lives and everyone knows it. Even though everyone was thrown into the same pool back then, your previous rank played a part in who you got matched up against and only had to play 10 games before you got "sorted". After that, all of the good players would rush straight to platinum/diamond never to be seen again while the low-mid rank people got to have more fair matches

EDIT: Before anyone asks, I have a 1.3 K/D, so I'm not some trash player that is rolling a 0.3 K/D and wondering why they're always losing

skill issue

You can't face people with the same rank as you because there aren't enough people playing the game. There is not a chance that 10 ppl with the exact same rank and in the exact same zone queue at the exact same time with how little players this game has. Ranked is fine lol, it's not about you but the average team rating. For the most part it's been pretty even. Higher ranks don't have any advantage over you either... Just skill issue.

Man, you're right because it's definitely impossible to find 10 people that are at least in the same rank bracket with 50,000 players (Steam only, not including Uplay). If we're to believe what you say, then that means there's 50,000 different ranks for each player because apparently there aren't 10 people in the game that have similar ranks

And it was just as ♥♥♥♥♥♥ as it was before and that was one of the things they needed to fix with the old ranking system

If you played with a friend who was 2+ rank brackets above you (gold w/ bronze or platinum w/ silver), it would make the teams so unbelievably screwed up because of that. Since it went off of an "average team rating", it had to make an enemy team that was equally screwed up with resulted in matches with copper/silver/gold/plat/diamond players playing against each other

You're right, the champion player has absolutely no advantage over the bronze/silver players and is just as equal as they are, and I've never heard more beautiful logic in my life

If rank gives no advantage, then why do ranks exist if everyone is equal?

true, they completely ruined the experience

thats not how it works.
People with previous champ will face people with around the same rank. Hidden rank stays the same, visible rank resets

So if I haven't played in 10 seasons and am extremely rusty, does it make sense for my hidden rank to still be at high gold/low platinum level after several years? Wouldn't it be more sensible for someone's hidden MMR to decrease as time passes and no ranked games are played?

Dota 2 has that exact same system and it's called "rank confidence" which causes your hidden MMR to decrease over time to account for long breaks. With this system, it removes your rank if your rank confidence goes below a certain value and requires you to recalibrate if too much time has passed to make sure you still belong in the rank you were in previously or if you need to go down in rank

surely the hidden rank declines over time if you are inactive. nobody knows for sure tho

That's what you'd think, but it certainly doesn't feel like it

If low rank gameplay is getting 1-tapped every time you peek around a corner or having an opponent being able to quick peek 1-tap people with ease, then I don't see ranked being playable anymore

Makes even less sense why everyone starts at copper instead of having calibration matches like they used to so you can get up to your intended rank faster

It most likely has to do with player retention by artificially making the rank up process slower. With the old system, you could play 10 games and get put into gold rank which, at the time, was the above average rank bracket below platinum and diamond. Now, since you start at copper, you have to work your way up through copper, bronze, and silver just to get to the lowest gold rank. This is also assuming you win every game which isn't very likely, so you end up having a lower rank than you would've with the old 10-match calibration system
