Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

Why does everybody use acogs?
If you're just learning how to play Siege, and you don't know every angle on the map, I think using acogs is probably one of the most detrimental things you could do to your game.

I tried using acogs after the third person on coms tells me I'm not supposed to use red dots on rifles.

1. I can't see anything
2. There's nothing I can do to make the recoil tolerable without increasing my sens to uncomfortable levels while ads'ing.

The only thing they seem to do is help me see farther, but I can guarantee you upwards of 90% of my gunfights are happening inside of 20 meters.

I can paint the center of the target at 30 meters with a red dot, but if I switch to acog it's all over the place. I've tried using the multiplier to make it similar to red dot, but it just never feels the same.

I have a sneaking suspicion that everybody uses acogs because they see pro's sitting on angles with them, and they think doing what pros do will make them play better. Except they're in ranked, not running strats, getting into 5 meter gunfights with people using a 2.5x scope......

You're damn right, I've been in the game for over 6 years and I don't use this scope. Moreover, after death, watching a teammate, I see how they literally can't do anything when the opponent is five meters away from them.

Skill issue bro, ngl.

I'm not saying Acog is perfect for everything, but it depends on the gun.

As Ying, I need to swing corners. So, I don't run Acog.

As Fuze, I don't run Acog so I can play vertical better when breaching the floor.

But Ace, I run Acog. I need to play on small pieces of breach so I need to separate the clutter.

If there's a pixel peek, you need Acog. A spawnpeek from a very tiny angle? You need Acog. Yes, you don't NEED it, but then you don't need a scope either, just run iron sights.

Point is, depending on what you're doing, it makes your life easier.
close to 97% of "pros" also run away from their prime obj on attack, and close to 50% run away from their TEMP prime obj on defense. Which is pretty consistent with the entire rest of the player base btw. So yes, little kidz essentially watching other little kidz with THE SAME amount of experience/strategy as they themselves have (just perhaps slightly better rigs/reflexes) are just spinning their wheels when it comes to basics on the game. IRL people go to those WITH OODLES more experience than themselves in order to get better, also known as coaching. Oftentimes in situations with GUNS this is a life/death matter. Yet here where THEY COULD be practicing in case they ever encountered such a real life situation, it's just a game, so they forget that gaming HAS more REASONS than its number ONE ONE which has been, is, and ALWAYS WILL BE = To Have Fun. Gaming is also good for exercising your brain, yet again if all you ever do is spin your wheels while thinking you are going on some great journey...well delusions abound it would seem in such regards!

This tells me a lot actually. I thought I was missing something. The amount of times I've had people tell me I need to be running an acog is well above 3, it's probably three times a week, but it's so absurd it sounds insane. Spawn peeking, holding a pixel..... this is all I could come up with, and that's all you mentioned. In fact, I don't even know what the skill issue comment is about. The recoil thing? What is your 2.5x multiplier? You literally can't have your 2.5x recoil control feel anything like your 1x unless you crank it, and then your sens is crazy high. You have to play the game with two different sens settings, or just deal with the jacked up recoil on acogs.

i sometimes wonder if its a question of screen size. there is a lot of blind echo chamber "youtube video says so", but when i go from 22 to 27 inch screen acog screws me up more than it helps. so maybe its people on laptops or whatever yelling at you lol.

truth is for us newbies (not highest rank or pro) it doesnt matter at all and its all preference. i doubt the meta game of which scope you use matters that much on lower levels when your gamesense, teamplay, aim.. etc. is suboptimal.

Still playing x1 holo sight only. Used to it for years as they removed acog in the past. What stopped me initially from changing the sight is muscle memory. Also the holo reticle seems narrower to me. In my opinion, below 30 meters the difference is less noticeable than wrong display/graphics settings. I play on a 24.5" screen with 4:3 ratio 90 fov, thus the holo shines while the acog represents a significant fraction of the screen.

I like using ACOG whenever I can. No one is going to stop people from using attachments of their choice.

Maybe, I'm on 27 and I despise them. Most people run 24 inch displays though. I also have 1440p. I don't have a problem seeing things far away. I can get a red dot dialed in enough that people will tell me my recoil looks too calm. I just use the compensator with most red dot set ups, and have the sens high enough that I can control it with my fingertips. Instead of pulling down on the mouse, I cup it into my palm with my finger tips. It's consistent, repeatable, and there's like no horizontal recoil. As soon as I use acogs, I cannot find a loadout/sens combination I can do this with.

I also find the reflex A and C to give way better results than halo sights. I think it's because it's a single point on the screen that's easier to focus on. It's like night and day difference for me. I wonder how many people actually test this stuff out. Everybody seems to use the same stuff. If people are purely using acogs to sit on angles, i have no business using them. I don't even know the maps well enough.

Why do people use acog? Its simple. They allow you to see further, thus encourage people to take long range gun fights. This is very strong, especially on defence and certain maps that have really long corridors/rooms (kanal, villa, etc). It also makes it easier to spawnpeek since the zoom is so much beneficial than a 1x scope.

Theres a reason why whenever a defender loses acog, their pickrate plummets (see wamai, and probably doc soon).
