Have a look at your sound settings, both ingame and on your system.Get rid of anything that may be affecting the sound...any type of EQ for music....anything like that.
Your playback device may play a factor. I have a cheap $100 surround system on my PC..and sounds get a bit muddled on that, but when I got my headphones on everything is as crystal clear as it would be for real.
Headset are OVER-RATED for PC gaming. You get ALOT more bang for your buck with seperate mic and a good set of headphones.
BEST mic in the world for your PC...CAD u37!!! You can usually get em new on ebay for $30-40 (USD) and they are pro-grade studio quality condenser mics. I promise you wil not find a better mic for this price new!
Alot of good brand of headphones out there, but be cautious of sets made JUST for music...that may have preamp/mixing features. A good example of these would be sets like the BEATSaudio headphones...they are very good for music, but they dont give you 'clean' sound, but rather adjusted sound.
You want a set thats is gonna give you CLEAN sound. Persoanly if you can afford it I would HIGHLY recomend the JVC/Kenwood Ha-MX series of studio monitor headphones. These are made with sound engineers and studio musical pros in mind.
I have a set of Ha-MX10bs and they are by a LONG shot the best headphones for ANY use I have ever owned in my life, well worth the $250.
I've played the old school rainbow 6 games, especially the ♥♥♥♥ out of raven shield. i play a lot of csgo, i play a ton of battleground and can pinpoint the compass number of where a shot is coming from with my headset. This game is different.
the sounds do not penetrate walls the same way they do in other games. for instant in csgo, ur standing short A on Dust2, you can hear footsteps directily thru 30ft of wall and pinpoint the enemies location on Long A, as if the wall isn't even there. In RavenShield, you can tell if someone is on the floor above you and 30 feet left even if its solid stone. the sound is DIRECT as i call it. its almost not realistic, but its what everyone mostly grew up playing with sound is used to.
the first month playing this game, i was compeltly lost. I had no idea where anyone was coming from, i was conviced the sound was broken, until i read 1 or 2 sentences from a thread I stumbled across. It said something like this. "sound in this game uses the shortest path to reach you. You will hear sound thru an open doorway louder and before you hear the same sound thru a wall"
when i read that sentence, it clicked, and i hope it helps everyone else understand this game.
Think about sitting in your room, right now on your computer, ur door is open and you hear a sound in the kitchen. You dont hear the sound direction directly thru the wall, you hear it coming from your doorway more. Imagine sitting on your couch with an open window on your right but someone is cutting your lawn in front of you, its coming more loudly from your window than from the direct direction. If that window is closed, you can pinpoint it as more of a direct sound.
This was realy frustarting to me, sorry for such a long post but its seriously what i realized after a long discussion and reaearch and now this game is a lot more enjoyable and it sucks it took me so long to understand it but hey, everyones different. im also high af right now so again this might not make any dang bit of sense. peace.
