Who are the bad guys?
Im honestly not sure if the Attackers or Defenders are bad guys, good guys dont take hostages and plant bombs, but what if that hostage was like the leader of ISIS or something. What if the attackers are trying to get to the BioHazard container so they can do terrorism.

If its all just a training program, then rubber bullets should probably be used, unless its just paintballs strong enough to break holes in walls. Or they got some high grade rubber.

Stop posting here you ♥♥♥♥♥

From a lore point of view, it does look like a training exercise between team A and B, with live ammunition.

The only terrorist hunt mode here is when you play co-op with friends.
Defends are bad

Training with live ammunition sounds a little counter-productive don't you think?

Neither side is "bad" Tom Clancy did not want players to play as terrorists within his games. So both sides utilize counter terrorist operators.

I thought the same thing at first, but its just a multiplayer aspect of a game, not any story mode. However i do think that ubisoft should and will probably do something to clarify who really is the terrorist in multiplayer mode. They may release like terrorist versions of the defenders, reskinned defenders with the same abilities for multiplayer or something like that.

I just assume it's like TF2 or Overwatch, and nobody actually dies because magic.

Not as uncommon as you might have imagined actually:

These are best of the best operatives we're talking about. There's no room for anyone to ♥♥♥♥ around.

I wish I could find the video that shows how swat units train because in it they show you that they use paintball rounds that are shaped like bullets. They refer to it as paintball on steriods. Which is essentially what the multiplayer is. Just Team A and Team B simulating a raid with non leathal rounds that hurt like the dickens. Which is why there is also blood splatter because its actually paint.

This sounds a whole lot better than live ammunition. At least you're not potentially wasting life for a training exercise.

then why would a bad guy defuse a bomb?
