Very true. Overwatch did a similar thing, suddenly revealing certain characters were gay or bi or whatever. People lose their minds over the stupidest things, but think of it this way. What does it matter if they announce that a character is part of LGBTQ+? If they announced tomorrow that say... Twitch was pansexual, or Ash was a pre-transition transgender male, does that affect the gameplay whatsoever? Of course it doesn't.
There are people that play as Osa or Sens or Pulse or Flores without even knowing about their gender or sexuality, nor do they care about it, because these things are not on display in the game, and that is the best kind of representation.
The biggest problem a lot of creators have when they try to make LGBTQ+ characters is they shove that character's gender/sexuality in the face of those experiencing the media, and that causes those characters to be separated from the rest of the cast, and usually makes them targeted by bigots.
People that are part of LGBTQ+ are just normal people, you potentially see dozens of them each day, but you wouldn't know it, 'cos they're not screaming it at the top of their lungs or doing everything they can to point it out to you. Rainbow Six: Siege does exactly the same thing. Unless you read the wiki or the character's bio, you'd have no idea they were LGBTQ+ characters, because the only thing that matters to the player is that they have guns and they shoot things.
So yeah, they could make more of the operators LGBTQ+, because it wouldn't do anything to the gameplay, it would only upset people that have an irrational dislike of things that don't have any effect or impact on them whatsoever.
The thing is, I agree with you on most of that. More people of different races do need to be represented more, it isn't just an LGBTQ+ thing, but a lot of countries aren't represented in media, or when they are, they aren't represented very well, or are shown in a negative light.
And yeah, the media is largely to blame for the boom of LGBTQ+ stories lately, and they are also to blame for the negativity aimed towards that community also. News outlets always blow things greatly out of proportion to make a story, regardless of the damage it'll cause, because it makes them money. They do the same to different races and countries too. Fear mongering is a big part of news media.
But this is a thread about adding more LGBTQ+ operators, and I'm not against that, because it has no impact on me or on the gameplay, or anybody elses, so I say just go for it, it's not doing any harm. If this were a thread on adding people from different countries, I'd be saying the exact same thing. Wamai is a good example of Ubisoft adding an operator from a country that is under-represented, plus normally in movies and media, Jamaicans are often shown as 'the bad guys', so it's nice that they're working on including people from all different places and showing them in a positive light. How about an Egyptian operative next? We don't see those represented often in video games outside of games focused around ancient Egypt.
As for that last bit in your post, so I like anime and hentai, whoop-dee-doo, I'm not ashamed or embarrassed to admit that, because I am who I am and I came to terms with my demons and my quirks long ago. How about you kiddo?
so why do you care so much for character traits hidden away in the lore that you specifically stated you dont care about? in what way has the quality of your life degraded knowing that these characters are in the game? do you wake up depressed knowing that these people exist and that theyve been added to your favourite game? no, there is no problem, except the problem of your raging insecurity and inability to look past the fact people are different to you. boo, hoo. get over yourself.
