Even a year ago it was an insane amount.
The reason why the playerbase has declined by 80% in the last year is because of the cheater issue and Ubisoft doing nothing about it.
Daily MMR adjustments, in Bronze, you don't need to be a poor loser to see cheats in this game that trend doesn't lie. And yeah we only play 3-5 matches a day plus we know Battleye isn't exactly overly zealous when it comes to catching them all, so...
It used to be bad, but far from gamewrecking, but now (I've been gone a year) it's bordering on the latter. And if it's this cheatinfested even in lower ranks, pretty much every second or third match ruined by cheatboi(s), I don't even want to experience higher ones.
Luckilly I'm too bad these days anyways so no worries.
That being said, the weekends are quite good and it's not as bad if you avoid mornings and nighttime, afternoons and evenings are quite normal, but still the problem, honestly it's become massive (on EU servets at least).
Another defender of cheaters why don't just admit you are a cheater fanboy.
Nevermind cheatbois galore three matches in a row now (in Bronze ffs! XD)and we won two so... Negative MMR rollback incoming I suppose, an entire session lost actually a total waste of time (if you care about progress I mean which fortunately we've stopped doing but I'm guessing most do hence why nobody plays this game anymore).
That's 10% of the 'active' playerbase cheating.
Cheaters are probably going to be more invested in playing the game, than someone who tries to play legit and encounters cheaters all the time as well.
However, It's also safe to say that more than 10% of the active playerbase cheats, a lot more. Because these bans are only from very obvious cheaters that got manually reported for review, got a data ban for exceeding inhuman K/D, Accuracy, Penetration kills or using outdated cheats that get them auto-banned.
So your chance of getting a cheater in a match is extremely high.
Rest is Rant:
But the playerbase is so uneducated when it comes to cheats, that most of them can't even tell when they're seeing a blatant cheater.
0 pixel movement recoil spraying? "He's just better than you." > Banned next day.
Half the kills through walls and follows with aim though walls? "He's just better than you." > Banned next day.
Negative milisecond reaction time and instant lock-on to heads? "He's just better than you." > Banned next day.
Plays like a god, but only half of the rounds to avoid databan. > Same ♥♥♥♥, banned next day.
Problem with Siege is that a lot of the cheating is offered as a monthly fee package, if you get banned you also get a new account, and Ubisoft supplies them with constant -50% to -75% deals.
And Free Weekend is just a hacker bonanza.
Why does Ubisoft do this?
It's explained during their earning calls where all they talk about is millions of new accounts because so many "players" bought the game, which is just cheaters getting the game again. Well then where are the millions of players?
Every time Ubisoft does a massive banwave, there is also a corresponding massive sale on the game.
Oh and let's not forget that these cheaters also buy the operators and often elite skins. So they do pay for store stuff, for some reason.
Conclusion: Ubisoft farms the cheaters in this game for $$$ and have given up on the real playerbase years ago, the decline in active players by almost 80% in recent years show this.
