It's been on a bit of a decline, and up until 7 months ago, I would have said yes. We've crossed the barrier since, though, and I'm not quite sure we're ever going to see a Siege that doesn't consist of 35% 13 year old Beaulo wannabes and 10% tense neckbeards in their 20's who, from the first second of the match, are ready to rip the vocal cords out of your throat if you dare talk back to them. Typically games like Siege don't see the casual and mature audience return once that's happened.
I've enjoyed it for 6 years. Six whole years (that's a lot of time!), and that's exactly how many years it took me to answer this question with 100% accuracy and certainty.
N O .
while i agree, it's more fun to play it with friends (because you can communicate with them better, while still having fun (real fun fun, not "throw and kill each other" "fun")), you can still have fun solo as well... i use to play solo sometimes, mostly Casual (ALL chat is muted, so there's no toxicity, and i can still communicate with my team), but i play Rankeds as well... I have to play rankeds alone, as my friends are playing just casuals, for fun, so they can leave if they have to, without being punished....
in Ranked, people are mostly trying hard enough, so you have the proper experience, with callouts and stuff.... but yeah, you can meet some rude people there as well, who can't understand that you have your life as well, so you don't know all names for every single square of every map....but still, i have to say, i don't know the toxicity most people are complaining about.... it's either because there aren't that many toxic people in EU, or then there's some special system, which can match you up with people with similar toxicity level as you are.... so more you flame, more flamers you will get in your team....
i don't want to say i don't meet leavers, team killers, trolls or toxic people.... i just don't meet them that often.... usually team kill is not intentional, and most leavers in casuals are immediately replaced by new players.... and there's almost no leavers in ranked....
i think it all depends on your behaviour.... you can encourage toxic people to be toxic even more, or you can calm them down, talk to them normally, and they can change and play normal :) or you can just go to Steam Discussions and trashtalk about the game, how it was "better" in "old days".... i started to play around Year 2, and still playing, with little breaks here and there (personal reasons)... it's still fun, and i still come back....i've tried to come back to CS:GO, but i just couldn't.... but R6 is something special.... yeah, you can blame it's not "semirealistic" game it "used to be", etc, etc....
regarding cheaters, i am probably lucky enough i don't meet them.... i think i lost some ranked points once because of some cheater in one game, but that's all.... regarding smurfs, that's completely different thing, but still, there's solid matchmaking, so if you are not skilled enough, you shouldn't face them that much....
1+
I would only recommend it if you got friends to play with. This is a teamwork game and communicating with your team is a crucial part of winning. Most of your matches will be like a complete graveyard, you won't even see the chat being active for any sort of info.
Playing with randoms is a hit or miss type of situation. You can get communicating and good teammates or you can get people who never bother to give info or speak, let alone cooperate. Playing with friends at least guarantees the communicating part and some sort of team orientation. I've played with people who have completely refused to cooperate and have gone on their own to chase for kills and in the end getting killed by a roamer.
This isn't supposed to be a hate post or anything, even though it seems like it. I'm just telling the truth about the state of the game.
Back to the topic, I think playing solo Siege is fine as long as you're not in Ranked. Ranked is a whole other world and my experience here so far has been only negative.
If you want to solo queue in any game mode, chances are that you'll probably enjoy your time playing, but the chances for that are greater in more casual gamemodes(qm and unranked), you can even play ranked but its just that the first few times i solo queued i was paired with teammates that didnt speak english so :/. But yeah to sum it up, solo queuing is fine and fun.
If you are in EU you are essentially ♥♥♥♥♥♥, since for some reason in EU most people cannot speak English, they don't have decent mics or they cannot control their volume.
In NA its alright, people do speak English but still the issue of no/bad mic and volume control persist.
Australia Servers i have found to be the most Pleasant to be in, people actually seem to be very polite there in comparison to EU and NA
And i don't have personal experience from other regions
If we're not talking about toxicity directed at the poster/me, I can understand how people can say there's little toxicity, but for me, on NA, the servers which are likely in question for this post, my teammates are the one that IMPLODE, it happens very very often in nearly every ranked match, and about 1/6 casual matches. If something, any little thing, goes wrong, chaos, destruction, absolute madness of slurs, insults, everything in-between. Siege, unlike a lot of other toxic games, is one where the playerbase doesn't know when to mute the other person, they kill the entire team's morale just by sitting there and arguing for the entire match.
In saying that Siege used to be better years ago, it says the person saying that has at least some sort of a gauge on how toxicity has scaled.
On cheating, something I think I've mentioned in entire forum posts, I'll return to play for the entire day after a 2 week hiatus from Siege, I'll play about 12 matches, and then once I return again the next time, I'll get a notification saying 7 of my reports led to action, which is disheartening.
To say it depends on MY behaviour is just insulting, nothing more or less, I've done nothing wrong, all I want to do is win in a positive environment while solo-queueing, but it's my teammates who ruin it for each other, it doesn't matter what I say, they don't calm down.
You can call me a hater aswell, but in the overwhelming majority of my posts, I don't say something without backing it up, elaborating on why I think that, it's not that I'm a hater, it's that the topics which are frequently brought up, like community, are ones that I have nothing positive to say about.
