Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

What are Operators ?
I'm considering buying the standard edition but i have no idea what operators are or why i should pay more for the game...

people say it takes 500 hours to unlock everything - i find that acceptable, since i've played Battlefield 3 and 4 which also takes 600 hours to unlock everything....

Do i need the "operators" ?

which opertaors are you talking abt the DLC operators or the Base game Operators?
Operators are the characters you play as.
The original 20 from the games release are cheap to unlock. The rest are more than 10x the price (using ingme currency)
the real question is... do i need them to have fun ?
For the love of god, don't buy starter edition... Unless you love tedious grinding that is. You can have fun with one operator, sure but how long? Also it's not very practical...

:D :D :D no, this competitive mobas of yours have mobs, R6 does not! Operators have different abilities to encourage tactics an cooperation, it's also good for gameplay diversity...

I bought the standard to and i regreted it its a trap to lure people in
Once cleared that you have to buy standart, the operators you buy must be based on your playstyle or role, let me do a small list for you:

Must have for teamplay or competitive:
- Attackers: Thermite (his ability to breach fortified walls is vital in most scenarios), Tatcher (being able to destroy any defensive device that blocks thermite charge, is important to combo), Hibana (like a thermite, but faster and does smaller holes from distance).
- Defenders: Mute (blocks electronic devices, from drones to thermite charges), Bandit (speed 3 operator that can have ACOG, also can electrify walls, another counter to thermite/hibana).

Easy to use and newbie friendly:
- Attackers: Fuze (you don't need to be a good shooter, put a cluster bomb charge and clean entire rooms in seconds), Sledge (good weapons, frag grenades, and a hammer that wil lallow you to break most walls, doors, windows... simple), Blackbeard (shield protects your upperbody and head, in face to face encounters you'll have the upper hand), Glaz (sniper point and click adventure).
- Defenders: Rook (just put armor at the start of the round and your teammates will love you), Kapkan (putting traps and defending, sounds easy, even thought in more advanced levels people watch out for his traps, nearly never work then).

Roamers, speed based and lone wolves or flanquers:
- Attackers: Ash (favourite of all pro teams, fast, can breach from distance or cause damage with grenade launcher, small hitbox and good weapon), IQ (counter of pulse, has a good weapon, also small hitbox and frag grenades), Jackal (good weapons, not a speed 3 operator but counter to all roamers with his track ability).
- Defenders: Caveira (the best roamer, untracable, silent, and if you got a lonely enemy down and can interrogate him, usually its gg), Jaeger (speed 3, defender with ACOG, and most popular spawnkiller), Valkerie (requires a bit of knowledge, but being able to place cameras gives you a lot of control over the map and info), Pulse (wallhack, I don't need to say more).

Others and why not take them or they could be good:
Attackers:
- Mountagne: If you want to play with a shield operator he is the best choice, but is hard to learn play well shield operators, and requires teamplay.
- Twitch: Very good as substitute for tatcher, but tatcher is far easier and dosen't requires you to be sneaky, this operator is great to have assistence in kills if you are a newbie, but his true potential relies on knowledge of how to use it.
- Blitz: Cool and fun, but dangerous hitbox, enemies may kill you even with your shield on, not recommended in more serious games.
- Capitao: heavily nerfed, speed 3 wich is nice and a good device if you have a enemy cornered in a place where he can't escape and he isn't peeking you, but not recommended.
- Buck: actually, he is quite noob friendly, he has a assault rifle and a shotgun in same weapon, can breach fast some thin walls, good reflex shoots with the shotgun in close encounters, nice weapon.... But not the most usefull one.

Defenders:
- Smoke: good defender and easy to use, better to defend the point, can be tricky, but it is also a nice pick.
- Castle: Absolutely not, considered the worst operator, only works IF combined with a Mute to block very specific windows or doors, otherwise, if you pick him as a newbie, you may condemn your team to be easily fuzed, block the path of your roamers, o trap inside or outside the objective teammates. More damage than good used wrongly.
- Doc: Only good speed 1 roamer (heavy guy), a healer wich is nice, can stand on point or move, versatile, good weapons, he can be a good choice.
- Tatchanka: ALL HAIL LORD TATCHANKA (very fun and lord of the game, but don't pick him with your firsts operators, is not that good).
- Frost: Like Kapkan, but her traps are actually better, but is maybe too expensive as your firsts operators if you are in standart edition.
- Mira: Awesome weapons, but requires a bit of knowledge, trial and error.
- Echo: Can be tricky, requires knowledge and moving fast changing from drone to person.

Hope it helped!

lol go look at some twitch gameplay or any please. they're characters. like in your team fortresses and overwatches. you certainly dont HAVE to buy them. but..the point is to..ya know buy them and play them and have fun.

anyways starter edition takes like 10x longer to unlock them. so not worth it unless you're so poor you only have $15 and can't get anymore for months

It takes 2.5 hrs to get a normal op, 3.5 to get the 25k ones
jsut buy the normal regular verison its worth it!
The price difference between Standard and Starter is so negligible now that buying Starter would be EXTREMELY STUPID.
Grinding is a part of the game
