When you start an round you get on an specific server, you spoof the IP of that server and then DDoS it, so it crashes. Once it crashes the game doesn't count.
And yes, Ubisoft is banning them, yes, they also get into legal trouble. Depending on where you live... it can end pretty badly. Denmark, for example, would jail you/make you pay an hefty fine for this (they take stuff like this serious)
Never had this happen to me until i reached Plat 1 / Diamond.... i didnt think it was possible either but kiddies just ddos the game server when they loose and then it shuts down. You get kicked out of the game and its as the match never happend.
Well i hope they are banning them... its just frustrating that this is still possible. Happens every 7th game in high elo... never happend in lower elos for me.
I remember the closed Beta days where people just DDoS the enemy team for ♥♥♥♥ & giggles due the lack of IP protection for both teams. Now a days the IP's that are exposed are your teammates IP due the VoIP & the server IP.

Anyways in 2016 there was a bot net capable of doing a 650 Gbps with 150 milllions of packets per second in a DDoS attack. So imagine what a current time bot net would be capable of.
