Check if it's available for download on steam for the free weekend. If it's not, open Uplay instead.

Already free on Uplay, why it is not free on Steam?

I already got the free to play weekend R6S and preloaded it in Uplay. But I want to launch it with Steam Client, as I have many friends here.

You can't. There's a difference between Uplay version Rb6 apparently and Steam version Rb6 when it comes to files despite being the same game using the same resources and servers.

You can still add your friends on steam in uplay as they also have uplay accounts anyway.

They handle their free weekends events differently. Whats free to play for the weekend on uplay doesn't always happen on steam despite it being the same game from the same company unless steam announces it too.

It's only on uplay unless steam announces it too like how AC unity was free to download and own back then on Uplay but not on steam or how AC syndicate was free to download and own on Epic store but not on steam.

"The free weekend is a whole four days, starting tomorrow, March 5th through March 8th. PC players can begin downloading now before the weekend starts, but only on Ubisoft’s Uplay launcher. You can also play on Steam and Epic this weekend but it doesn’t appear you can download the game ’till tomorrow through those launchers. For more details on the free weekend, head over to Ubisoft’s site."

Nice, at least there's an announcement to clear things up on where people can play it.
