Why is barbed wire good?

I tend to stick in casual just to play with friends so I dont know the pro strats, but people realy love barbed wire. Why do a lot of people say its the best in slot gadget item?

I would disagree tbh, but I'm not a super-experienced diamond or anything so my opinion probably doesn't mean anything.

It can slow down the enemy and the noise it makes can alert you to their position, so I guess that's why.

It's not really that barbed wire is super overpowered but it's becouse the shield is trash without Frost.

barb wire got nerfed like 6 months ago or so. The speed reduction was fairly high back then and it required 3 instead of 2 hits to destroy. The best way to destroy back then was; grenade, sledge hammer, or ash charge. all those options still are viable but melee is easier now with the reduce hits requirement. The best use for BW is as an early warning, when someone hits it, walks in it and so forth you know where they are.
