Rainbow 6 want to buy ultimate edition when I already own lower tier?

You can do it but why would you need to do this? Do you really need all operators? Because basically that's what ultimate edition gives you. Remember you can unlock operators with renown and during season by just completing daily and weekly challenges you can collect enough renown to buy operators and still have some renown left.

IMO if you already own at least standard edition there is no reason to upgrade. Otherwise you can upgrade but not directly through steam but by uplay or by buying a uplay version from third-party store and activating it on your uplay account.

It also works for steam. Go into steam support > Search up R6 > Click "I want to permanently remove this game from my account" > Confirm > Re-buy a different edition of R6.

Progress is saved to your ubisoft account, so as long as it's still linked the steam account you use you won't lose anything.

But this way you have to remove game first, buying directly on uplay or uplay activation or uplay key (if you can find these anymore) you do not remove anything, you literally upgrade.
