Singleplayer/Co-op worth it?
Does it have it a proper story singleplayer now? Or will it never happen? Does the co-op at least get some love? The PvP is of no interest to me. Worth it still? I'm lacking some good co-op games right now. Got the impression this is a highly competitive PvP title and co-op is rather tacked-on when I tested it out during some free-weekend?

Because it's a multiplayer game. The co-op is more so for training and warming up, getting used to the multiplayer part.

Sure thing, but I still remember times when Rainbow Six wasn't a highly competitive eSports PvP shooter. Had some minor hopes that perhaps Ubisoft wouldn't entirely forget about that.

They did an entire line of story games and one that is now heavily focused on MP, and that for a reason, focusing on one thing is better than two half-assed modes. There's a 3 player co-op game coming for exactly that reason. To focus on that aspect - co-op.

Yea, you should wait for this game if you want some coop from Rainbow Six series. It's about co-op, but i'm not sure there was PvP mode.

The only Player vs. AI modes are Situations (short missions aimed at newer players to grasp the very basics of map knowledge, gadgets, and simple strategy) and Terrorist Hunt (mostly for practicing aim and map knowledge)
Neither of these modes are honestly worth buying the game for, however they did recently update Terrorist Hunt for the first time in several years which could point towards the mode getting a full revamp soon.

Back in 2017 during a free weekend I only cared for the PVE and loved it. It gets old but so does PVP because there's no variety in gameplay. Its all board up everything, shoot through everything, kill everything. There may be a secondary task like hostage rescue/defend or bomb defuse/defend but other than that its just board up, shoot up. PVE and PVP offer the same content basically. Just PVP will get you randomly banned because people are very sensitive in competitive modes. Trust me, unless you can handle Modern Warfare 2 Xbox Live stay away from online. Not very welcoming to anyone. Even 'pros' are attacked.

For being on sale cheap, I found it worth it for the PVE. But after years of playing I find it hard to stick around with no new content outside of Science Fiction heroes being added to the game because they want Siege to be more like Overwatch instead of a CSGO competitor for Esports like originally planned (hence why they canned Patriots a singleplayer story driven game).
The year pass can vary on taste but to me Year 1 was worth looking into (never had the chance) and Year 2 was OK at best. Year 3 was a joke and Year 4 is an abomination in operators. Its gone full on SyFy Channel and forced diversity rather than making fun operators to play with and alter strategies.

I still prefer Rainbow Six 3 and Vegas 2. I still play SWAT 4 even. The older games were more tactical and singleplayer driven with co-op and multiplayer as an after thought. Sadly those days are over.

Well @OP, if I'm mistaken there's a free weekend soon. You can give it a try.

PvE wise we got the situations (aka tutorials) & Terrorist Hunt (that can be played CO-OP, or as lone wolf).

In Thunt you can play up to 5 players in matchmaking, or as "friend squad" only. The modes are: disarm bombs (basically activate the defuser to disable 2 bombs, while holding your ground against waves of bots); terrorist hunt classic (basically TDM, with no respawn against 22-30 bots depending on the difficulty); extract hostage (self explanatory); protect hostage (protection of the hostages, against waves of the White Mask terrorist group).

I'll put here the complete archetype of all the current White Mask terrorists bots, on my edit.

there is a Co-op mode which is T-hunt. you and a group of 4 others can play the same style modes as MP but against AI. MP is 5v5 but Co-op is 5vE. I would advise you to play with friends vs solo due to it's rare for groups of people to play T-hunt and most of the time they are just either grinding a daily challenge or just there to shoot up ♥♥♥♥ and not give a damn about the mission. There is no single player mission at all.

If there is a free weekend I'll try it again, but from what I'm hearing it's not worth it. I will write down R6 Quarantine though.

Oh man I loved SWAT 4 too, so many good memories. I totally missed Vegas. Do people still play that? Rainbow Six 3 actually was the last R6 I properly played.

And since it was mentioned, I actually hate this hero path that Siege went. At least it did give me a sour aftertaste when I did try it during a free weekend a longer while back. If I wanted this stuff I would be playing TF2, Dirty Bomb, Overwatch or [insert any other random hero shooter the market has been flooded with]. R6 always was about realism, these heroes just seem misplaced.

There's a free "week" rn, it's from Today, until September 3rd. It's live on Uplay, idk if Steam have enabled the free "week" yet.

Yet it is called "Tom Clancys Rainbow Six"

What a f*cking shame

Well tbh the last "classic" Rainbow Six game, was Raven Shield. After that the franchise went downhill & each time more arcadeish with this game R6S, being the biggest spin off from the franchise.
When Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Quarantine is out, that should be another nail in the coffin of Tom Clancy's, due that game being even more arcadeish & a different genre than his original work on his book & the "OG" rainbow six games themselves.
