How can i tell if it's a friendly or enemy drone?
I frequently find my self shooting drones including my teammates drone.

Sorry i'm a new player.

only attack side has drones aside from Echo's Yokai drone on defense which flies sometimes and is shaped like a square

Attackers have drones, and defenders have ceiling cameras (and one drone if someone has Echo). If you really need help, force a habit of checking cams so that you learn what are your team's assets and what are your enemies' assets.

Only attackers have drones
The only exception is echo which is a flying square

Shoot drones only as defender, if you are attacking shoot cameras...
