Montagne in real life
Hello everyone. Montagne is my favorite character and because he is fairly realistic, i'm asking you people if he is indeed a real character. By that I mean: Is his shield and his equipment used in real life scenarios?

On rainbows wiki is this information:

- Operator Based On Real Life - A veteran of the National Gendarmerie, Gilles Touré is the longest-serving GIGN operative. Fiercely protective of his teammates, this gentle giant would not hesitate to throw himself in front of a bullet if it meant protecting his fellow operators from harm. He brandishes an extra-large riot shield, first issued in the 1980’s, that has seen more action than most operators. (SOURCE: https://rainbowsixsiege.gamepedia.com/Montagne)

Basically I was searching all over the google and all I found was people saying that his Le Roc (Extendable Shield) probably isn't real because it's too heavy. I still don't really (WANT to) belive that because of the statement above saying: "He brandishes an extra-large riot shield, first issued in the 1980’s, that has seen more action than most operators."

Is this shield real or not?

In all likelihood no, because it's too heavy. A bulletproof shield of that size would be 80+ easily; imagine holding that up for more than 30 minutes

Nah. sorry but that much metal would weight far too much to move freely like that. He might be able to scrape it across the floor, maybe trip over sometimes.

I've seen Russian forces that have a shield like that on wheels for advancing on an occupied building. So they kind of exist, but not in a handheld version.

I did a little bit of research, the shield is entirely made up, montagne is based on someone (forgot his name) who took several direct shotgun shots to the chest and survived a close range explosion whilst dealing with hostiles on a plane
