I once camped for an enemy, i was crouching in the corner of a wooden wall, but suddenly, a thermite shot me perfectly in my chest through the wall...

Get good headphones and listen carefully.

Rule number 1: Walls are not your cuddly friend. They are dangerous sharp talon armed kittens that will tear you up.

Map awareness goes a seriously long way, I went from useless to sort of mediocre thanks to knowing the layout of the rooms I'm camping, got another boost when I noticed that enemies can see my laser sight and another from playing with no other sound on apart from the game.

Useful things anyone can do.

Look beneath doors for feet/shadows, you can easily see someone and kill them. Make good use of the lean/crouch/prone functions. Once you get to know an operator and you tend to get better with them. Upgrade your weapons, it does make a huge difference. Teamwork helps too, working with your team using headsets does make things easier. Also wear a headset and have all sound come through it and turn off in-game music. If you hear footsteps you can take a reasonable guess at where someone is/moving, this has gotten me a few kills through the floors before as well as help locate an enemy and avoid death by "walking".

It took me around 14 hours to really get used to multiplayer and once I did I noticed I wasn't dying as much and was getting a consistently higher score.

Also when playing as Sledge, you can use his hammer to break holes in walls like some stone walls, I've taken to doing that and then shoot the guy prone behind it pointing himself at the door, all because I saw movement and shadows.

Play about 2500 hours of CS:GO;

I have seen people picking this game up after that and roflstomp us newbs in casual 5:0 after only another 600 hours of R6 Siege.

Or you can go into ranked, but everybody will hate you, when you are not good, so you can't do any placement matches, because you have to be excellent to get placed with other excellent people.

You need to learn the common spots and what stance people are in when in those spots. Avoid using common spots, get creative. Prefire common spots when peaking rooms.

Get good head phones and crank up the volume. Listen for any shuffling/steps/gadgets/cameras. Everything in this game is super noisy. Wall banging breachers/Fuze is an easy kill if you learn what to listen for.

Use the right stance at the right time. Remember prone is EXTREMELY noisy so avoid using it when enemies are close.
