Meaning of 'Rainbow Six'
little known fact, Rainbow is the team name, Six is their team commander's code name. Five is sub commander. (straight from the books). Rainbow is named from their multinational nature, and mainly funded by US via CIA, and stationed at Hereford base. Two teams take rotations.

The books? I know only about one book about the rainbow team. Did i miss something? Rainbow is mentioned a few times in the whole Jack Ryan / John Clark Saga, but with no further information except that John Clark was the founder and first CO of rainbow.

There's one other book in the Ryanoverse that has Rainbow acting directly, if I recall. And that was The Bear and the Dragon.

If i recall it right the "bear and dragon" one was this Triology within the Ryanoverse. Ryan Sr. became just president and china is at war with russia. I dont think that Team rainbow played a part in a full spec war. I thought that i ve read them all. However its easy to miss one ... plenty of them published.

I haven't read the book since it came out, which was nearly 20 years ago, but Rainbow DID do SOMETHING in the book, something along the boarder between Russia and China.
