Hocus Pocus

Screen Resolution in game is unplayable
When I launch Hocus Pocus, I get a screen that is less than full size, making it impossible to play. I have laptop running Windows 8.1. I've tried monkeying with the config file, but nothing seems to help. Any ideas? I have a screenshot, which I was going to include here, but don't see how. I will see if I can post it under the Screenshots tab.

Thanks!

yea, none of the solutions works for me either. Not sure why it worked for Shodan, but this is frustrating.

I have a possible solution. Open the game's DOSbox config file (Hocus.conf, it can be found in the game's folder inside the Steam folder) and, underneath "scaler=none" (that's the default option, I changed mine to "scaler=hq2x"), add "autofit=false"; that should correct the issue.

Rats! I hoped this would work for me, but it doesn't. I went into all the options on the DOSbox command menu and tried every combination I could find, but it still doesn't work. I'm starting to think it's the graphic card in my laptop, but all of the other games in the game pack work just fine, so I still think it's something with Hocus Pocus. Will keep trying "stuff". Thanks for the possible solution.

I have the problem as well, on a Windows 7 desktop, with a GTX 680 graphics card.

I have a Windows 10 laptop with an Intel graphics card. I know the game works for some people, so there's got to be something causing the problem, not the game itself.

"Actually it looks like you only need to go backwards a single build - to DOSBox Daum 2014-01-27 - and that is enough to fix it.
- Go to the "older builds" section of the Daum developer site, here:
http://ykhwong.x-y.net/subpages/old.php
- Download the "20140127" build for your specific OS. You don't need the DLL files.
- Go to the DOSBox folder for Hocus Pocus in Steam (steamapps\common\Hocus Pocus\Hocus Pocus\Dosbox) and overwrite the "dosbox.exe" and "dosbox.conf" files there with the ones from the downloaded archive."

Thanks I forgot about this separate thread. The above procedure should work for everyone who is still having the stretched screen problem in Hocus Pocus.

This did indeed take care of the issue. Thank you!!

Thank you ThreeSon, your last post has solved my screen resolution as well.

I would suggest you write a short guide about it for other Steam users.

Has anyone else tried just clearing the doublescan value?
So that you have "doublescan="
I've tried it on many different configurations and they've worked where nothing else has.

or you can use dosbox ece or dosbox-x for different (maybe better for you) results.
