Picking a Destination

So I have a question about picking destinations on the world map screen.

The available destinations have a flag on a flagpole that you select the one that you want to go to. I notice that sometimes the top of the flagpole has a red cirlce on it. In the linked screen shot you will notice the destinations in South America and in the Arctic have the red circles, the the one in Asia does not.

Any idea what that means? More difficult maybe??

The red marked ones are regions of a type you have never before visited in this campaign. Therefore you'll get extra fame when going there. (the red marker is actually a little fame symbol)
