does HTC vive or pro have 6 degrees of freedom?
like can you look up and down as well as in all other directions? As someone who has never played VR is it really like being there sightwise or what should i expect.

Yes. you see what your eyes would see if your head was in any position... as well as in 3d space. Get down on the floor to look at something on the ground if you want to. it tracks your position and all that jive.

cool and its the same with sitting VR games and standing or roomscale?

Yes. In all cases I've used sitting VR games, there's still a degree of 3d space movement... as in it still tracks your head in the 3d space of the room. shift your head to the left a bit, and your perspective changes accordingly.

From what you say I really recommend you try out the Vive or Rift or any of the "real" VR headsets out there that will give you a feel, its way beyond looking up and down as you also have 2 different views per an eye meaning you "see" 3D

Every time a newcomer to VR comes to my house I give them to try Tilt Brush because it's a great way to show it and the reactions are the same on it
You see people painting something in the air, and most of the time I have to ask them to walk or when they just do it them self you see there face shine when they realized they can just walk around what they just draw in the air
Your 6 degree sounds like something that is below what we talking about here

On top of that I will like to point it does depend game and the like, some have more limited view sticking to a more mobile type of VR but for the most part they all give you free movement around

Yes..it's exactly like "being there". If you've never tried a Vive it's hard to describe but this is as close to true as it gets.

It's litterally the same as viewing the world with a scuba mask on (if the world was a computer game that is). Put a scuba mask on and walk around your living room. Thats VR with the Vive. Complete 6 DoF and movement with in your play space.

For example, I can walk around and inspect a table in my house in Skyrim VR the same way I would do it in real life. I just dont have a bard staring at me whilst munching bread in real life..but I do in Skyrim VR

Seriously...2 years of VR and I'm still loving it as much as I did on the first day.
