DEVELOPMENT UPDATE - APPLE SILICON, BUSY WITH LIFE + HIATUS

Hello!

While I'm not sure who reads these as an active college student in their final semester, graduation is unfortunately a higher priority to me at the moment than the development of the game so things have slowed down significantly for the months after NEXT fest.

With increasing coursework as well, and other real life situations it's clearly taking longer than I intended for release.

I have been gradually building content, and have gotten native support for all major desktop platforms though in the meantime (if I can figure out how to sign an Apple binary...)

Regardless, for anyone who is still following or choosing to follow thank you for doing so.

DEMO QOL Updates

Since the release of the demo last week I've gotten some feedback about some stuff that is hopefully addressed in this change, there is no significant game stage content modification, these are purely QOL changes that while sort of small, hopefully help a lot.

I'm still figuring lots of things out so, bear with me!

These changes will invalidate replays made before this week.

Change Notes

- Reduced Stage 1 background noise, and changed projectile sprite in 1-2.
- Additional small encounter in 1-2 to fill up some dead space.
- Hit flashing reduced to flashing the border red exclusively.
- Death flashing reduced to flashing the border red exclusively.
- Shield does not require any lives anymore. This was unclear previously.
- Play area border will display it's behavior when the player is close to it.
- Hitbox shown after receiving damage for a few seconds.
- Player hover effect made more subtle.
- Help Menu button added.
- The 'Ask to save replay' menu defaults to NO.

SOLSTORM STAGE 1 DEMO RELEASE

Hello, and welcome to SOLSTORM!

The playable demo for the complete first stage set of the game including the boss fight is available natively on both Windows and Linux, for you to play right now!

Additionally, demo save progress will carry over to the final game! Feel free to experiment and learn the games systems!

Demo impressions

An empty board makes me sad, so here's my thoughts from the demo! - A solid foundation! It's good to see a game in the "bullet hell" tag that's an actual bullet hell game. - The feature where bullet hitboxes are visible while focusing is great, I've never seen a game do that before. - Game systems are a bit obtuse - even scouring the help pages, I don't know why I would sometimes lose the ability to shoot for several seconds, or what the green and red bars under the burst gauge are. - There were a ...
