Will this run on Intel HD Graphics?
Specifically the non-numbered variety found within the Intel Celeron N2840 @2.16GHz. It supports DirectX 11, so is one of the newer versions of Intel's GPUs, but only has 4 EU's running at 311-792MHz.

My little brothers are getting laptops with the above specifications as Christmas presents, so I was wondering whether we could all play co-op together, as the game supports 3 player co-op over LAN (my preordered laptop I'm getting very soon has a GTX 980M so I needn't worry about system requirements).

Will it run on the lowest settings?

Cheers!

Hard to say anything specific without actually testing. It also somewhat depends on how you deifne "run". My old Sandy Bridge based HD3000 cna handle medium quality at 1600x900 and about 20-40 FPS. Whether one consider's that good enough is debatable. However, although GPU in N2840 is much newer than HD3000, It seems to be considerably slower (at least in raw flops and MHz). Hard to say how much that will affect FPS in practice. Also, since N2840 is based on Intel's Atom line, I'm somewhat worried about the CPU side of the things, though it probably doesn't matter at or below 30 FPS.

Results also depend on how well the laptop is cooled (how well the "Turbo" feature works, especially in GPU). Only way to know for sure is to test, or find someone who already did :) .

You can try the demo for free :)

Yes, it will but with low quality of image and low fps rate. I've run the game on this gpu long time ago, horrible gpu xD

Thanks for the info! Reassuring to see the devs commenting. I think I have read that this new GPU when paired with tablet-oriented Atom CPUs is about half the raw power of the HD 3000. How much of a performance difference is there between medium, low and lowest settings?

During my hunt for information on this GPU I found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4lm_R4h8Hg Now, the question is; how much faster would it run on the Celeron N8240 processor? Seeing as the TDP limit of the Celeron is much higher than the Atom Z3740 in the Asus T100 tablet (7.5W vs <4W), it has much faster CPU clockspeeds (2.16GHz vs 1.33GHz), also higher GPU clockspeeds (792MHz vs 667MHz) and it is probably paired with faster RAM than the tablet has too.

It is really difficult to say anything without testing the game on specific hardware. I've tried to play trine 2 on tablet with intel hd graphics, it wasn't playable fps rate and it is really hard to call it enjoyable experience but try, there is a demo available, it is free, you can try it on your hardware and judge by yourself.

As SpectatorX said, it is pretty hard to know anything exact without trying. Celeron N2840 will surely be faster than Atom Z3740, and seeing the video I'm not really worried about CPU side of things anymore (one tends to forget how powerful even something like Atom is compared to e.g. Cell in PS3). If the laptop is well build and cooled, Celeron should be able to run at or around the highest GPU turbo speed. However, multiplayer will be somewhat more demanding than single player, and other levels (mostly) more demanding than Tutorial.

Also, as I noted before, it really depends on what you consider good enough. If you are happy with 20-25 FPS at low(ish) settings like in the video, then the Celeron is probably OK.

Like others have said, try the demo, if possible :) .

Thanks for your answers! The laptops are the Acer Aspire ES1-311. Unfortunately can't try out the demo on them, as they are already wrapped up back at the family home (while I'm still at uni). I decided to take leap of faith anyway and ordered 2 copies of the retail collectors edition for their presents, while I shall get a Steam copy for myself for 3 player co-op play. Hopefully Intel won't let us down!

This is a side-note, but is the GPU in the laptop I'm due to have delivered to me next week, the GTX 980M 4GB, powerful enough to run this game at Ultra settings at 4K native resolution with 60fps?

I think it should be able to. I do not know how much slower is 980M in comparison to its desktop version. Later i will try to simulate something as close as possible and let you know.

I found one of emails i sent to frozenbyte, to be specific the one where i shared my experience with game on some tablet with intel HD gpu and intel pentium N3520 cpu. Things which would interest you the most:
I've run the game in 1280x720 resolution and lowest possible details with fps rate about 15fps average which is not so great. Maybe lowering resolution could help in gaining any more fps.

Ok, me and my friend finished testing and completing all needed info for you. She owns powerful pc: i5-4690, 16GB of ram and geforce 970. This in some way can be comparable with 980M but i still would be comparing safely and taking 980M as 20-30% slower than desktop 970. Thankfully to DSR we simulated 4K resolution on her 1080p screen. She run the game with highest settings in 3840x2160 without any form of AA (in my opinion with such high resolutions aa is not needed anymore). It is safe to say for 99% of time the game will be running over 60fps. I asked her to grab some screenshots with fps counter enabled in game, here they are(be aware, every each of them is over 1MB big):

Wow, thank you and your friend for taking the time to do that. Great results! Looking forward to trying this one out in 4K very much next week.

And then playing co-op with my little bros at Christmas :D

possibly on the lowest settings possible. I love the visuals so it would be a huge bummer not to play it at its best. That being said it's an amazing experience regardless. Easily on par with AAA games if it had more depth. Even to this day, I scoff at my friends for not getting both Trines

No problem ;-) I hope you will let me know how the game actually works on your new laptop at such high resolution when you will finally run it :-) Also it would be nice if you could tell me what cpu and how much ram is in it?

I checked results of similar hardware combination in 3dmark firestrike test and conclusion is simple: your laptop is about 2-3% slower than her desktop pc and i can assume you can expect almost identical fps in trine 2 as you can see on these screenshots.

Well, my new laptop is due to be delivered today so we'll see :D

Edit: happy to report a consistent 60fps locked at 4K with the 980M :)
