The significance of dancing
Has anybody else wondered why the protagonist's dancing has the effect it does on normal people? Why it is such a central component of gameplay?

If I were told nothing about the game besides its premise and that social dancing is a major aspect of gameplay, my assumption would be that dancing did something like reducing Suspicion. "That guy can't be the killer - he's just getting his groove on!" That kind of thing. I

Rather, most of the time - not all the time, but most of the time - Darius' dancing is repulsive to almost every NPC character. They express disgust, annoyance, alarm and anger as soon as he busts out his moves. This proves useful at dispersing crowds full of witnesses, particularly after the surrounding rooms have been emptied and made more appropriate for picking off anybody who strays from the herd.

f there's any action that would make sense for clearing a room, perhaps with penalties to suspicion, it would be some manner of benign antagonism - feigning drunkenness and antagonism, shoving people, spilling drinks on them or otherwise being mean.

So why dancing?

My theory is that, per the revelations of the ending, the Party Hard Killer actually hates parties and sees them as symbolic of society's decay. He hates hedonism in general - promiscuity, drunkenness, drugs and general buffoonery. So when he dances, he is imitating humanity as he sees them. But he has come to hate these particular people, so leaving aside that he has no idea how to dance, the inspiration for his dancing is hateful. So when sincere partiers see this man aping who he sees as a bunch of pathetic hedonists, they are understandably creeped out and repelled, or even angered.

Furthermore, when the entire party has been put down, he dances, alone- with nobody left to judge him, further symbolizing his spiritual isolation as well as his triumph.

Do any of you guys see it differently, or have other thoughts on it?

Dance is useless???
Could dance make me innocent?Or just make other people sick and kill them?

Use it to get people to walk away so you can follow and kill them.

They either go away from you, or they'll start dancing along with you.

Yeah, I have to agree with the responders...I have often been annoyed wiith the few that just sit in one area but I know I would fail if I tried to kill one as there were two others and they were all spread apart.

With the dance, at least one of the three will get up and walk out and you just hunt that one person down.

When I first started playing, I would get lost as to which character was me. 'Dance' can also help locate your player if you should just happen to lose track.

Point taken. The game is fun though and it takes a bit of time to get used to both the way it controls, the "view" of the victims and finally, other small tidbits like hiding bodys quickly. Even knwoing I am still not 100% sure of the range of view for the future victims but the game grows on you and I wish you luck in your playing.

the purpose of the dance is to get people to go away. he dances after killing everyone because he killed everyone. they are all dead and deserve to be. so he dances the dance of joy at a successful killing

Yes, I understood the gameplay mechanic. I was asking more about WHY dancing is given that role. :)

because you have done the good work of murdering those who deserve to die and stop wasting the lifeforce of the world. which is why the killer cant sleep.

Dancing makes people go away from where you are dancing so that you can more easily kill them in a place where no one can see you killing them

I normally see it as a useful tool when I lose track of him on screen. i.e. I looked away from the screen, then back and can't find him. Make him dance, then I know where he is again XD

I know it's a bit necro but I have another opinion to add.

I think The Killer dances at the end is a symbol of turning the tables.

Whoever partyed were disturbing peace and quiet all around them. But now when they dead and "Rest In Peace" now it is The Killer who disturbs their peace. Gives them taste of their own medicine after subjectively rightfull revenge.

I gotta admit, I see this and I like it
