SW: Galactic Battlegrounds... "Must insert game CD..."

OK, so I got the game to actually open using the Windows 10-Windows XP SP2 Compatibility settings, but now it tells me I need to insert a game CD to do the single player campaigns...
Any suggestions?

You need a disk drive in your PC. If you don't have one you can download virtual drive software.

No offense, but that's just stupid. I have a one of those DVD multi combo things (only thing it doesn't do is BluRay), a hybrid drive, and SSD. What more do I need?
Do I gotta make one of those ripped disks with some of the files on it just to run this?
Too much hassle if that's the case. The whole premise of buying things on Steam is so I DON'T have to carry around umpteen dozen disks for old games.

Go to STAR WARS - Galactic Battlegrounds Saga\Game and launch battlegrounds_x1.exe

I no longer have a disk drive on my computer and I can still run it without this issue. I think the compatibility setting is the cause of asking for a CD.

yeah, this issue was resolved ages ago with a patch anyway.

Issue isn't resolved is 2023.. I'm currently trying to get this running with no luck
