Solutions
  • Q: I get an error during installation that says: 'An error has occurred while trying to replace the existing file: DeleteFile failed; code 5. Access is denied.' or 'Error creating registry key: -//- RegCreateKeyEx failed; code 5. Access is denied.'
  • A: Reboot your PC, then start installation again.

  • Q: I get an error during patching to widescreen: 'Didn't find interfac.drs reference at expected location. Wrong exe.'
  • A: You have a multiple monitor system, so patch may work not correctly. You need to deactivate the second monitor and run patch on the primary monitor, i.e. monitor you want to play the game on. After patching process will be done, you can activate back the second monitor.

  • Q: Nothing happens when I start the game, i.e. it crashes immediately.
  • Q: When I run widescreen patch the window command gets full of red messages.
  • A: You need to install/update '.NET Framework 3.5'. On Windows 7 and later this component installs automatically, but if this didn't happen, follow the steps:

    1. Press 'Windows Logo' + 'R' keys on the keyboard.
    2. Type 'appwiz.cpl' in the 'Run' command box and press 'ENTER'.
    3. In the 'Programs and Features' window, click on the link 'Turn Windows features on or off'.
    4. Check if the '.NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)' option is available in it.
    5. If yes, then enable it and then click on 'OK'.
    6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation and restart the computer, if prompted.

  • Q: When I launch the game I get an error : '0xc0000022'.
  • A: You need to do the same steps as in previous Q&A, but instead of step 4 you need to check 'DirectPlay' under 'Legacy Components'.

  • Q: The game crashes when I am using 'System Memory' option during installation.
  • A: This option is unchecked by default specially because it works not on every computer.

  • Q: I’ve enabled widescreen but it doesn't seem to work in main menu.
  • A: Custom resolution affects only the gameplay.

  • Q: Why Steam Overlay does not appear in game?
  • A: The game uses DirectDraw for graphics rendering. Steam Overlay works only in DirectX games.

  • Q: Does it work if I have the Expanding Fronts mod installed?
  • A: Patch improves only the vanilla game, so it does not affect the modification.

  • Q: When I am playing vanilla game or patched, the gameplay stops/freezes, but music still continues to play. It stays like this for about 10-20 seconds then it returns to normal. It happens very often.
  • A: The game is 15 years old, so it may not work properly on all systems. I know about this problem, I read about it on GOG forums, and one of my friends has it. But I cannot explain why this happens, searching in Google gave nothing. Sorry, I cannot help you...

  • Q: I've installed the patch and I can't access taunts or commands.
  • A: Look at the minimap, there's a PLUS SIGN (+). Click it and everything should be returned. The Taunts/Commands were simply minimized as an option to simplify the game, particularly for players that aren't that picky when it comes to unit commands.

@|)in-d1n Not atm, i can out up with it for now, thankyou :). I actully remeber using the CD before the clones wars came out back in the day. Even then i had the exact same problem. Whatever is wrong with it is in the core game.

Original music is a one 30 minutes music file with fixed order of tracks. Every time you will play the game, you will hear the same tracks in the same order. If your match will be more than 30 minutes, you will not hear music until the match ends. So, there is no way to use original music with the patch. UI will be always on the left, this is how widescreen patch works.

Is there no way to use the original music off the disc? I don't want the new music. Also, can the UI be centered instead of all the way on the left?

You can try to disable Windows XP compatibility and one core affinity. For me, as example, the game works perfectly without these optimizations.

Hey, so in the installation process it says enable Windows XP compatibility. is it alright to disable it or just leave it on? also thanks for patch.
